Hey everyone,

I posted before and it has been so helpful that I am going to throw this question out there. My girlfriend and I are getting pretty serious. Yes, I am only 18 and she almost 17, but we have something with each other. She currently lives in the UK and I am in the US. It has been very hard being apart from each other and when I look at our options in the future, it will be many years until we can be together because of college and whatnot.

I have thinking lately about possibly moving there next year for college. Again, nothing is definite, I am just trying to look at options. Education is a huge priority to me, and I want to make sure I can get the education I need. If you don't know, the UK has a different education system. They attend high school which is more like a freshman and sophomore education, and then they go to college which is a more in depth education. College lasts for about 3 years, and after that, they attend university which is around another 3 years.

I need to know where to look to gather information. What I need to know is this...if I move and study in the UK, will I have to start with college and therefore spend 6 years instead of 4 to complete my degree, or can I attend university if I pass certain tests? Also, is it possible to do some kind of online education through a university in the United States?

If anyone has any knowledge pertaining to these questions I would appreciate it. Also, if you know where I could start looking, please let me know. It is quite overwhelming and I don't even know where to start. I just want us to be together as soon as possible. Thanks

Well, I don't know anything about education in the UK, but I work at a University here in the states and I can tell you that there are literally thousands of schools that offer degrees online. First you have to consider exactly what you want to go to school for then research colleges/universities that offer online degrees in that program.

Some things to watch out for:

Make sure that it is a completely online degree. Some schools will require you to take certain courses on campus, or come to campus once or twice through the term.

Make sure the program is accredited. You want to make sure you are getting a good education and not just any online degree. Good schools will have accredited online programs.

Here are some websites you might want to check out http://www.elearners.com/

Finally, I caution you VERY strongly about moving to the UK to be with your SO. You both have a lot of growing to do and you don't know where that will take you. I followed my high school sweetheart to college and we are no longer together. So make sure you are doing what is best for you.
