Wow- I started a different kind of medication lately and the side effects are strange.

I have depression and anxiety- they sort of co-exist... but the depression isn't here right now, only anxiety (a chronic condition for me). My doc put me on Wellbutrin. We both chose this drug because I was worried about side effects, and this one seems to have been a "staple" for pharmacologists througout the years and has manageable side effects.

Has anyone else taken Wellbutrin?

I have had crazy dreams, blurry vision and difficulty concentrating... but also I have lost my appetite. Lost about 8 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I only realized it yesterday when my parents saw me for the first time in a couple weeks and told me I looked gaunt. I stepped on the scale and sure enough- losing too much weight.

BUT- I am feeling a bit better. So I don't want to leave these meds.

On the other hand I can't afford to lose more weight.

Has anyone here used this med and reaped some benefits?

Just wondering because I can't afford to lose more weight- I'm wearing a 25 waist right now and they are a bit baggy. I am also almost 5'8". I can't lose more.

I know most meds take 4-6 weeks to settle in.

I swear - on this med, I am adverse to food.

research says this is a side effect that goes away- I'm just looking for people's experience with this med, or perhaps meds in general...

Thanks,

I only give medical advice to my patients, but I'm sure this isn't anything taking a naked look at you couldnt help

Thats a risk I'm willing take and well prepared to deal with now that you warned me. We can add violent sexual tendencies to a list of your side effects

Hi D-Lish, yes, I'm taking Wellbutrin. It did make me lose my appetite, especially at first. I went from 135 lbs to 115, which I hadn't weighed since HS. I looked too thin.

I have now been taking it for about a year, and my weight is at about 125 or a bit lower. I think I look alright at this weight. My appetite is good, but I still don't snack as much between meals.

Oh, the other side effects...I just reread your post. I also had crazy dreams. I had to start taking something to help me sleep at night. I've also noticed that certain obsessive behaviors seem to peak suspiciously around the same time my meds are probably peaking. I can't drink too much coffee or I start getting too speedy.

Sounds a lot like what I am experiencing.

I was about 120- at 5'8"... and am down to 112 which sort of shocked me today when I weighed myself.

The meds initially made my anxiety worse rather than better- but I feel it levelling off now.

My doctor suggested lexapro as a better anxiety med- but my best friend is on it and gained 30 lbs...

I take sleep meds as well- Immovane. It doesn't always work.

Overall are you better off on these meds?

Yes, I would say I am better off. I started it for depression which was mostly situational, although now that I'm on it and it has given me some perspective, I believe I've been mildly depressed since childhood.

I picked this particular drug because I've frequently had trouble staying focused on certain tasks and Wellbutrin is believed to improve attentional issues. Also, it doesn't tend to have sexual side effects.

I can see though, that if you had big issues with anxiety, Wellbutrin might not be the best choice. It does have a "speedy" aspect to it. I've had some anxiety issues since going on it, but it is hard to tell whether the drug is the cause.

As of about a month ago, I also have a different therapist, who seems to get me much better, so that is helping.

I am on zoloft for anxiety, I have crazy vivid dreams also to the point where I'll be going through my daily life and say...Wait, did such-and-such actually happen or did I dream it?... And i honestly can't remember if it was a dream or reality!

I've also found that I have lost a bit of appetite. I just "dont feel" like eating most of the time. I normally weigh 110, but I must have lost at least 5 lbs in the past few weeks. I don't like having no appetite, because I used to be anorexic, and it makes me nervous, almost like I am going back to old ways... even though I'm really not.

The meds are working, so I'm glad I'm on it and I know the effects are supposed to stop soon (or so I was told)... Hopefully for the both of us!

They should level out... It's been a while since I started this thread and I have got some of my appetite back, I'm back up 2 lbs, which is good because for a while I had no inclination to eat. I also feel more focused and generally just better. Still having crazy dreams.

My anxiety has lessened.

As for the depression- I'm like you StoryRider. I have dabbled with depression and anxiety since I was a child. I know my doc said that wellbutrin is good for both.

But yes- there are no sexual side effects from this med! I've been on others and couldn't have an orgasm. Imagine going through 9 months with out one!

D-Lish, since going on it, have you had the feeling at all that your sense of smell is more acute?
