Mark2134 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Hi all! It's my girlfriends birthday in November and I want to do something special for her...although I can't be there with her. I was asking if any of you had any good ideas of what to send to her (UK to America) because I want to do more than just send a card, but don't want to risk a package with something expensive in it getting lost! Any ideas will be helpful!! Thanks! Have a nice day.
LikeCharlotte Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 How old will she be? What does she like? You could use the magical internet and send her something from the US so it doesn't have very far to travel. Can you think of something that isn't fragile? Do you have any talents that you could exploit for the occasion? I've seen people on LS suggest letters, they are so novel in the age of internet. Give us a little more info about her! GL.
quankanne Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 this might be a bit juvenile, but have you ever heard of those traveling teddy bears that elementary school classes sometimes send around the world. Teddy keeps a journal of all his travels (journal entry + photos of him doing things or being at certain places) and eventually winds his way back home to share his adventures. what about doing that for your girlfriend? Find a stuffed animal you know she'll enjoy, then spend the next several weeks visiting different places and getting photos and simple souvenirs, and write the journal entries from the animal's perspective. Send her both, but at the very end, maybe write something about being excited to someday share this with her in person. I think with all the wonderful historical and different stuff in the UK, you'll have a goldmine to work with – even the pubs, which aren't the same as the drinking establishments here.
crimsonrose Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I love faeries, so my fiance, before we even had met irl, sent me 2 faery figurines from Nene Thomas. They're beautiful. He also sent me, that Christimas, a pair of earrings. Either of those would be pretty. He even sent the earrings in just a simple envelope because they were small, so you wouldnt even have to pay shipping or anything. Also, flowers2mail.com is awesome. I started sending my fiance virtual bouquets when I got home from this last visit, and it's made him smile so far Try that. You can customize it and everything. And you can write a cute message too The sweetest thing to do I think, is send her flowers. Call a flower shop in her area and have them delive her favorite flowers to her home or work, and jsut pay them with a credit card over the phone. Lots of people in LDR's do it. My fiance even has a friend who did it to his girlfirned who lives in the same city, and just had them delivered to her work. Flowers always make a girl feel special. You can do almost anything that you would do IRL, but half the things are even SWEETER because you're so far away and it takes a bit more work. You could easily just send her the flowers and it would make her ecstatic, while flowers in a normal relationship would be sweet, but the girl would probably expect a present as well
HisLove Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Google 'care packages' for some really great ideas. There are some awesome suggestions from the military support sites about what to send. Magazines (english ones that perhaps she can't get), chocolates, a music cd you made just for her etc
