I sent him a long letter telling him basically that he'd misread everything and that I was just being friendly. I did lie and add that I was engaged.

He hasn't tried to call me collect, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The letter was really nice and clear. Unless he's nutts, he should be straight now.

I was writting to this prisoner because they are usually lonely. I wasn't looking for a jail date or anything. I was just being nice to him. we used to do this in college also.

If those people were worried about lonliness they would not be committing the crimes in which get them incarcerated away from the rest of society. If you have chosen to take up interaction and communication with a fraud artist. Then you should have been prepared for the 'truths' they were/are going to bring to your life.

People generally don't commit a crime in anticipation of the time they will serve if they get caught. They hope above all hope not to get caught. Of course they get lonley, it's human nature, criminal or not. I'm not saying I necessarily sympathize with their lonliness, but some people believe in redemption.

I think the OP recognizes that it was a mistake to get involved with this person. She can't go back and undo what has been done, so the focus now is how to protect herself.

I think she's done the right thing in writing a farewell to the guy and we can only hope that he can mind her request to cease contact.

That's your first mistake right there (don't even need to read the rest).

True dat Bells... seriously- prisoners are prisoners because they are bad people who make bad decisions. Typically someone isn't in jail for 13 years because they can lead a normal life in society.

Let this be a lesson for all of us... don't become friends with a murderer.

I certainly *hope* this is fake! Holy hell woman: putting your address on the envelope (TELL me you didn't put your apartment number on it too) AND giving him your home phone number????

But assuming this is real I pray for your safety. I'm glad you broke it off on your end but with someone who killed someone and seemingly has a problem taking rejection from the way he keeps calling you, chances are your words won't translate the same way for him.

What extra precautions have you taken?? Girl put some extra locks on your doors/windows, reinforce the ones you already have & have mace or some other form of protection on hand and easily accessible at home. Most importantly, as embarrassing as this might for you to do, make sure you tell the police & people close to you about the mess you're in: exact date and time he's supposed to get out, what he looks like, the fact that he knows where you live... Put as many people on guard about what's going on as possible. The bigger your safety net the better.

Good Luck! :confused::eek::o

Wow, that's a really good reason to write to them!

Next time you want to write to lonely people, send me a PM. Other members here keep saying I'm going to be very lonely during my lifetime, so it must be true!

Yeah- write to him... but not to me please... Jaysus!

In my opinion, anyone that would write to a prisoner is looking for something weird to happen. You just don't decide to write to a prisoner.... Why not to the Troops? They are lonley... and make better dating material than a prisoner.

If this thread isn't a fake (which I am totally not convinced of)... you must enjoy the thrill of chatting with a criminal mind. Perhaps you took an interest in criminology or a course on deviant behaviour in college?? (then again , if that's the case, you would have known NOT to write).

Return address??? Come on- any programs connecting the outside world with prisoners make you use post office boxes. AND, they do have INTERNET in prison..... e-mail??? hmm.... not snail mail with return addresses that anyone can have access to.

Restraining order? She needs a glock, CCW, and some firearms training, fast. Either that or I need a better BS/troll detector :p

Now that I have that over with and on the off-chance this is genuine I suggest you file a copy of your letter with your local police department. I trust there was a clear statement that he is not welcome on your property in your letter. If not, send a clear statement as a final missive. This way should he appear on your property you have a valid case for trespassing and the police will have to respond.
