I've been seeing this girl for about 2 weeks. We were supposed to go on a date yesterday but she kind of had a small emergency with her friend and had to stay with her friend the day and night. I was a bit disappointed, but I feel she was being legit and did want to see me (I'm pretty used to girls blowing me off or standing me up, so I'm usually pretty skeptical when it comes to a girl canceling a date, but I feel like this girl is sincere).

It's her birthday this weekend, and while she's spending it with her family at home, I wanna do something for her on Friday or next week. What's good for someone that you've only been dating a short time? I don't want to over-do it. I was thinking of taking her out to dinner on Friday (being poor college students...dates are usually cheap or cost nothing, so taking her to a nice dinner and paying would be a special). That sound like a good plan? Maybe some flowers too?

Two weeks isn't very long at all, and if you typically don't have a lot of money, I wouldn't do flowers. Maybe a "nicer" date than usual, and a card. Or maybe a CD or something, but the whole "emergency" thing makes me a bit leery for you to spend a lot of anything.

Ok, I'm thinking a card then, and something on me like lunch or ice cream. I'm fine with money personally, but college kids in general are usually broke (since they spend whatever job money they make on booze =p), so going out on dates that even cost a bit of money isn't very common.

And I'm always leery when a girl cancels a date, believe me, but I feel that this girl is different and a lot more sincere. She's the one that suggested we get lunch yesterday in the first place, and I just confirmed it.

First of all, mail the card so that it shows up on her birthday. It's nice to know that someone took the time in advance to let you know they were thinking of you. If you choose to do the flower thing, 1) have them delivered. 2) choose a small cheerful bouquet of inexpensive wildflowers or the like. Take her to dinner or pack a picnic and take her to a nice spot. Burn her a CD of your favorite songs (no love songs just yet!)

Good Luck and have fun!

Dinner is enough.

2 weeks isn't enough for the flowers and songs.....

and songs..... never do that.

If some guy made me a mix CD or wrote me a song I think I would run the other way. CrEePy!

Now a good concert..... yeah tickets to a good concert... nice gift for newbies. - at 2 months perhaps.

Well I think mix CD's are weird unless you know what the other person is into. Then you can say, "Remember I was telling you about that band that you've never heard? Well here...I think you'll like it."

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm a musician and write and play a lot of songs anyway, so it wouldn't be like, "I wrote you a song." "I didn't know you played guitar." "Um...I don't..." and then the song sucks., haha. It wouldn't be a love song this early (I don't write or play love songs anyway...but if I really liked a girl and was with her for a while I might make an exception)...probably more like a funny song about her and her birthday...but maybe I'll hold off on that or just do something improv when I'm with her and my guitar.
