IfWishesWereHorses Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 The verdict was that the infection caused the condition.
LakesideDream Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 LakesideDream and IfWishesWereHorses, thank you for a very different perspective on this. I was indeed NOT aware that tooth bacteria could be so dangerous. IWWH, do you really think the tooth infection caused your friend's death? Or did she have a heart problem to begin with? I talked with him last night and indeed he was very hurt that I wasn't ministering to him more. I said I was sorry and admitted that for reasons perhaps stemming from issues of my own, indeed I found it hard to be as sympathetic as I'd generally be, when every day he laments that "They are out to get me." Still, especially now that I understand that this tooth thing is more serious than i'd thought, I'm going to make more effort to be sympathetic. Lakeside and IWWH, given your experience with tooth infections, are there any other medications/etc. he should be taking besides penicillin and prescription pain killers? GC, not 2 feet from where I am typing on my bedstand is my defense against the Staff infection. I have a cocktail of both Cippro and Vacomicin which I am instructed to begin taking if I even "feel like" the infection has reappeared, and get to the doc as soon as possible. If it happens when my doc isn't in the office, he reccomends the emergancy room. I have a thick folder with a history of the condition I have, and med records of the previously mentioned hospital stay to take with me. Evidently these resistant infections are often misdiagnosed and often fatal as a result. Four months ago I literally got an infected hangnail on my index finger. Two days later, I awoke with temp of 103 going up I immediately took the first of the perscription, and had to continue for 10 days. The infection settled in my groin, yuck! Lots of swelling. Waking was literally a pain for awhile. I doubt that you can get a powerful antibiotic like Vacomicin, or Cippro without a lot of tests and a doctor that agrees. You must be very careful with the current crop of super anti-biotics as they themselves can be fatal. Ironicly because I must have the percriptions on hand before I get sick, insurance won't cover them because I'm not yet sick! The cost to me is about $1375 for ten days worth. Keeping them on hand is a matter of life or death. Good news is that I get a Uber complete blood screening for every meanie known to man.. twice a year. I know I don't have communicatable diseases I could possibly pass along to a partner. My infectious condition isn't communicated through fluids. I would need to donate a massive amount of blood to pass it along, and I absolutely would not do that.
LakesideDream Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 GC, a second thought. When this "thing" is after me, sometimes my body temp rises to 106+ a few times peaking over 107. Yup, Ice pack time. Also as I mentioned before if shaking occurs I literally am not in my right mind. My body is paralized, the shaking is uncontrollable. I don't think this is the case with your BF. But... I do think it is possible that he is probably very weak from a serious infection and isn't 100% thinking straight. Anyway.. lesson over. Get him checked out with a doc for bacterial infections. I'd bet he's reacting to the dental work... and being a jerk at the same time.
Lookingforward Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 If you're going to google it - try spelling it Staph infection (short for staphylococcal)
LakesideDream Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 If you're going to google it - try spelling it Staph infection (short for staphylococcal) Oh great spelling Nazi, I bow to your superior spelling skills. It googled just fine, with 626,000 entries using the incorrect spelling.
soserious1 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Your husbands advice was ignorant. He sounds like an ass. Is repeating his drivel the best you can do? If you have experianced similar problems you should be able to empathise. If not, why pass along such ridictulous ideas? My ex was/is an ass but in this particular situation he was spot on. If I'd taken care of my teeth via regular dental visits, small problems wouldn't have mushroomed into large, drama filled crisis, that ended up massively increasing our out of pocket costs and disrupting normal work/family routines. As he told me around that time, he could understand my dental fear, he'd have gladly gone with me to help me thru routine appointments but felt that catering to and babying me over a condition that was caused because of my own neglect of myself was counter productive and would merely serve to reinforce such behaviors on my part. No secondary gains given for pain that was in a big way my own fault.
