Country_Girl Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I have been in a LD relationship with my boyfriend since April. He still has 2 more years of schooling, so I have considered moving to Canada (where he lives) while he finishes it up. He has also considered moving near me (the States) to finish school, but he would have to re-take a bunch of classes (since all of his wouldn't transfer over). We've been talking about marriage latley but there is a problem. Maybe a Canadian citizen can help me answer this. If I wanted to move to Canada today, I couldn't, as a result of a dui conviction. You have to wait 3 yrs from the date of conviction to even be "considered" for residency in Canada. My question is this, if we got married in CA, would that over-ride that? Could I then live with him & not have to wait 3 yrs? Thank you in advance, for anyone that knows!
Ronni_W Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I'd highly recommend that you consult with an immigration attorney or get in touch with Canada Immigration. I don't know anything about this site but it might be helpful: http://www.canadavisa.com/ask-immigration-question.html And best I can tell, this is the official Citizenship and Immigration Canada site: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
