SarahRose Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I broke up with my bf 4 days ago. When and how do you go about exchanging things that are at each other's house? I really don't want to see him yet.

I really don't want to see him yet. As soon as possible. Don't delay. It's like pulling off the band-aid. If you don't want to see him, then maybe figure out a way to do it so you don't see each other.
Author SarahRose Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 Thanks I'm just so inexperienced at this stuff. You mean you are supposed to do it right away? I guess I could gather the things up and just go drop them off. Well I better text him first so he can get all the unwashed dishes of mine together. blah. of course he wouldn't think to wash them before returning them.

You're not supposed to do it any particular way. I'm just saying that I've found that if you're serious about breaking up, then it's best to get it all arranged and done with as soon as possible.
Author SarahRose Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 Well I did it. I did forget one thing of his which he reminded me after i was there. doh. I got there and it was awkward. I was blathering on about some parrot in the front yard doing odd things when I walked in. He reached over and started to hug me but stopped and he tickled my face instead. Then he told me about this breed of dog he knows I like he saw in the pet store. So he ran around getting my stuff and he came out and got the plant out of the car and then it was awkward. He looked fairly hurt. Then we just said bye and he shut the door quickly behind him.
westernxer Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Sounds like it went okay... at least he didn't give you a guilt trip.

lofi_tokyo Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 good for you to get that done so quickly! sounds like you handled it well. Yup, I agree with watermeloncandy. Sounds like things went pretty well! I wouldn't worry about the awkwardness or sadness, thats kind of expected, I imagine, in that kind of situation. Good job!
Author SarahRose Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 Thanks everyone. I guess if you were going to have a breakup it couldn't have gone better. That doesn't make any sense. But there was no arguing or guilt trips or anger or name calling or cheating or I don't love you anymore. Neither one of us have run off to anyone else. It has been 4 years and he still didn't want to get a place together or get married so I had to say goodbye. I still love him and hoping just maybe he'll man up and make that grand gesture.
