Finally broke things off...I don't get him(a little long)

I have been posting over at the LDR board but since things were finally broken off tonight I guess this where I'll be posting from here on out. Long story short I was basically seeing this guy most of last year. He graduated and moved home(12 hrs from me)but we continued to talk all the time. A month after moving home he decided to go backpacking through Europe for the summer and so our contact became limited as he was constantly moving around we could only talk via the computer.

 

A few weeks ago I made mention of possibly coming up his way to visit him and another friend(who is male I might add but just a friend)and he seemed pretty excited about my possible visit. I ask if I could crash at his place and he said "of course!"...however about a week later he basically changes his tune and tells me he is afraid of getting attached again for me to only leave and more or less that he's changed his mind about me staying with him.

 

He's finally home now and I talked to him today and he said that if I still come up to Toronto which is a few hours from him that he'd hopefully be able to take a day to drive down to see me. I told him that this wasn't a good idea because he might get "attached" again. He basically laughed it off and when I told him again it wasn't a good idea he was asking me "why?" and just sending question marks....I sent him a message a few hours later telling him that I really felt I needed to move on from him. That my feelings had faded. I was interested in seeing other people. I didn't think we should see eachother or talk for a while, and his response is "yeah that's what I've been thinking as well. I'm glad we're on the same page :)"......WTF??!!?? this is a guy who 7 hrs earlier was asking me why he couldn't come see me when I'm a few hours away in a few weeks and now this?? I don't get it............

Thoughts would be appreciated. Is he just acting like he doesn't really care because I initiated cutting things off or is this really what he wants?
