I've searched and searched but all of these stupid men's websites show crazy "in" clothing that weirdo Euro artists are wearing to the cafe. I'm seeing an awesome classy woman who likes to "dress up", I have zero experience lol! We're going out to a nice martini bar next weekend and I need to figure this thing out! I have always liked getting dressed up for special occasions like weddings, Christmas parties, etc...but I have zero experience on how to dress up for a regular night on the town. I'm a casual type guy, some nice jeans, button down shirt, maybe a polo, etc. "Dressing up" to me is suit and tie. I could always ask her "what should I wear so I am not over/under dressing you?", but I'm trying to find out for myself first, that is a last resort lol. I'm thinking a nice color dress shirt and tie with some slacks but not sure right now. Tie or no? This is freaking stressful lol.

Me and this woman are hitting it off something serious so this is important to me, I want to dress to impress;)

Well I don't know just how fancy this martini bar is, but I think you'd also be fine in some nice slcacks, and a nice dress shirt, I think wearing a tie might be too dressy/formal (but that would be your call based on how fancy the place is)...

I know you can't wear t-shirts, shorts, or baseball caps after 6pm lol, other than that...haven't been there. Suppose to be more of an "upscale" place.

since the evening planned is a ways off - can you pop in there and get a feel for the atmosphere a few days before you go?

that would allow you to understand how others are dressed for this venue. then you could decide.

An old BF of mine used to plan the most wonderful dates. He would let me know in advance if it was a "dress up" date or not. lol. He liked to go a little fancy now and then. :)

Anyhoo - generally for these types of dates, say a nice dinner, or going to the Symphony, he would wear slacks, nice dress shoes, long-sleeve button down dress shirt and a sport coat. Personally, I think the sport coat brings the outfit together and ratchets it up a notch.

I'd say this is your best bet. I'm not a "dress up" person either. I wear holey jeans and shirts with stains on them and steel toe boots all week for work (I work in the construction industry). Looking nice to me is a good pair of jeans, nice shirt and my Doc Marten boots.

As far as shopping is concerned, you don't really need to look in the magazines. What's "in" is usually always what's on the racks of the department stores, as far as the general cut of clothes is concerned. You'll never be too far from the trends as long as you shop regularly, and stay away from the grandma section.

Leave the tie at home, jacket optional.

What's your age?

If you tell me, I can pull together something age appropriate that is in style.... but not over the top. Fashion was my biz and passion for many years... and I've been a personal shopper for many of my guy friends.

Okay- JEANS are always in style. A really awesome pair of denim Jeans and a man blouse is very Martini Bar style.

The general rule I tell my guy friends is to go to the mall and look at the mannequinns in the front windows. Pick something you like- and ask a sales person (girl lol) to pull something similar together for you in your size.

Slacks aren't really what my style of guy would wear ever...

An awesome pair of jeans paired with a cool t-shirt- a button up over top and a cool jacket is very "in". You'd have to check and see if jeans are allowed (crazy if they are not)... and if the man blouse over top the t-shirt negates the "no t-shirt" rule for this place. Pair it up with lace up running style shoes that are more up scale (meaning not sporty).

But- give me your age details- and I'll try and send you a link to a certain "look" that you might like.

Cheers.

I also just uploaded a pic onto my albums on my profile of a blazer, shirt, tie and jeans combo with a cool pair of shoes. I just wouldn't cuff the jeans as that is "too" euro.

Click on my profile and go to my pic's and albums and click on the men's fashion pic I put up.... It's a cool outfit....yet it's casual because it's paired with jeans.

I think you should call the place and ask them what the atire is for men on a Saturday night or whatever the night is. If they say dressy casual etc. just get them to be more sepcific are jeans ok or is it more dress pants.

The pants is a good place to start if it's jeans you can still look hip and classy in dressy, in jeans and a dress shirt. No tie on a Sat night unless it is a cocktail party or an event.

Is this a trendy martini bar or a piano/jazz lounge?

Would something like that work for you?

Hope the link came through.

That's a cool look, def my style but not sure it is for this place. That is something I would wear for sure though. I'm 37 years young by the way;) I say "young" because I look and carry myself much younger;)

Not sure really, I know they have a jazz band playing. Jeans with a nice shirt and sport coat would be much more my style;) Thanks.

Thanks for all the great tips to everyone....in the end I think I still will end up having to ask her what her idea of dressing up is lol.

I added more to my pictures and galleries- about 4 pics.

lemme know what you think.

Martini style is def distressed jeans, striped shirt with a tee underneath and a blazer.... you can pair it with a tie or not- even with jeans.

Jeans are timeless.... always in style. the best guys jeans are diesel. Every guy looks good in a pair of Diesel jeans. Call ahead and ask if jeans are cool.
