KinAZ Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Well, I guess it's settled. It's funny how people are quick to judge. It's ok for a guy to put stuff on his hair to make it look neat or shiny or well kept, it's ok for a guy to look tanned even if he did it by going to a tanning bed. It's also ok for a guy's skin to look great even by getting a facial, just don't tell how you did it. You'll be labeled. As long as the final product looks ok, it seems that the means are better left undisclosed. We say it's ok for a woman to have boob jobs, or lipos, or gastric bypass. and we say "well, if it makes you feel better then there's nothing wrong with it". Women want us to be progressive enough to say, it's ok to wear butt enhancers and push up bras but the moment a guy wants to wear color lenses, then "ummm" or "he's gay" or "he's to vain". I'm sure it's because we live in a society that thrives on double standards. It doesn't really bother me because it's not about the lenses per-se. It's about the underlying issue. You want us to look good, work out, shave your hair, pluck our eyebrows, look like a freaking calvin klein underwear ad. but taking steps to getting there is all of a sudden gay or too vain which reveals the chauvinist in you... women... *sheesh* <rant>It's been a long night. I need to get some sleep.</rant> LOL! Awww! Let's put it another way, for both men and women, there's grooming, and then there's overboard. If your eyebrows LOOK like they've been waxed, I'd say the same thing about a guy. But if you have a unibrow or cookie monster sitting on your forehead, I don't see a problem with wanting a neater appearance. I don't think there's anything wrong with a guy getting a manicure or pedicure to be well groomed occasionally, but tanning... lol I'd say the same thing unless you were preparing for an important photo shoot. In my youth, I didn't mind the metrosexual. But these days, I'm just not going to be interested in a man who will fight with me over the mirror. So now colored contacts are a step to look like a CK model? I hope that's not what you mean to say. If you care about your health and appearance you just keep it up. There's no need for all the extras, unless there is something defective. These aren't comments towards you personally, but regarding the matter in general. If a person, male or female, is trying to be the best he or she possible, a fairly healthy diet, honest but not insane exercise, attention to but not obsession with grooming is all that's necessary in MY opinion. I personally do think it's vain if a man is overly concerned with looking like a calender boy, and I think the same thing of women as well. I've honestly never seen a person who looked better while they had their colored contacts in. If anything it's usually distracting.
Author rod_in_gtown Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Oh no. I'm not taking it personally. Like I said, it's more theprinciple of the thing. where do you draw the line? can't have standard lines because we're not produced in an assembly line. I accept double standards, heck, I even use them more often than I care to admit. I just wish things were a little easier sometimes. But that's also the lazy in me talking. I had already an idea on where the majority was going to stand on the issue, I was also hoping to be wrong but all in all, a good thread in my opinion. I'll get off my soap box and let someone else take a whack at this animal that is dating.

I actually think double standards are what makes things interesting (granted, some of them are just ridiculous).
Adunaphel Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 I would be worried that - the guy might be gay - the guy might be a serial killer (I've been reading too many thrillers, I know) - the guy might be looking for a woman who puts a lot of effort on improving her looks (in which case, we would not be compatible) - the guy might love to draw attention on him.
Lishy Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Errrrrrrrrr no! No way! No colour contact lenses, the look ridiculous on anyone regardless of gender! Dark eyes are so sexy!
