Is joint custody a good thing??????

For the parents or the kids  ?

Just kidding. Done successfully, it's the best thing for children in a divorce as it keeps a strong bond with each parent. Kids can take divorce personally and an absent or uninvolved parent can only deepen that feeling of responsibility.

At least in my case, it was a real challenge for the adults involved. If two people can't agree on things when married and living together, it is naive to think that they'll agree on parenting issues when separated. Throw in the additional turmoil of dropping the kids off at Mom's house when her new BF is there (or vice versa) and things can degenerate into bitterness and name-calling quickly.

It simply comes down to this - how hard are you willing to work to do what's best for your kids?
