2cold2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Out of curiosity, do you believe the human being is "programmed" to be monogamous? Please don't connect this thread to my story, I don't want to justify anything though this question , it's really plain curiosity of what we believe in
Ronni_W Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 No, I don't. I believe monogamy is a human-made concept, invented for purposes other than individuals' happiness and well-being. On a personal level, I don't feel it's programmed into me...I know it is choice that I make. And no, I haven't tried to reconcile my beliefs with all the animals in the animal kingdom who, research is telling me, remain monogamous throughout their lives. "I am not an animal," as Joseph Merrick said .
Owl Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 It depends on how you wanna look at things. If you want to go on the evolution side... There are a large number of 'higher animals' that are monogamous for the most part. Wolves, raptors (owls, hawks, eagles), etc...most all mate for life. They, like humans, do have a 'divorce rate', a 'cheating rate', etc... Sure, they're driven by the same need to "spread the seed" that humans are...but have also discovered that monogamy offers other benefits as well. If you view humans as animals coming up on the evolutionary chain, as a whole, we tend to be monogamous. We have been for the majority of our recorded histories. Do we have individuals within the species that aren't monogamous? Of course...so do the other animals I named. Those animals even have same sex pairings on occasion as well.

It's a choice a person makes be Monogamous. AP:)
