gummybear Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I'm feeling completely heartbroken (had recent breakup) and now I'm doing this online dating thing and it's so discouraging. I have zero interest even though I've been on those dating sites for 2 weeks now. Not even one person I want to chat with. It doesn't make me want to get back with my ex but it doesn't change the fact that I'm a bit frustrated over here. Sorry, just needed to vent...

It IS depressing, any kind of dating will be depressing now since no one will compare to your ex. Why don't you take time off to yourself and just ride this period out? It's ok to be alone. Why do you feel the need to start dating right away? Plus it is not fair to the people you meet online because you are not emotionally ready to take a rel on.

If you are still heartbroken, it only makes it worse. I know, I tried it back when I broke up with my ex fiance. You will compare everything to them and the thing is, there is no way the prospective dates can give you the comfort factor you had with your ex. Take some time, trust me, it is much more enjoyable when you aren't heartbroken.
Mako482 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I agree 100%, I tried the same thing after my divorce. Eventually I figured out I needed to be alone to get to know ME again. I just started dating again 3 years later. I totally suck at it though;) FYI, it's still depressing but you don't need the extra suck right now. Take some time off.

It's only been 6 days since I last talked to my ex and at the time I promised him I won't contact him again and we both basically knew that would be the last time we'd ever talk/see/hear from each other again. I guess the thought of that really is getting to me. You're all right, everytime I see someone on a dating site it just reminds me of the good times I had with my ex and makes me sad. Today is Friday...originally had plans to fly to see him this weekend but instead now I'm just gonna be thinking of him and how it didnt work out...
