This is NOT a brag thread, it's a "look outside the box" thread. I never would have considered someone this much younger than me ( 16 yrs) blue collar, and from vastly different back grounds.

But, I have never been this loved, and treated so well in my entire 40 yrs.

SO, for those of you who are lonely : Try the older, younger, fatter, thinner, blacker, whiter, less/more educated, whatever-er that you didn't give a chance before and you might be pleasantly surprised !

Just thought I'd share that advice, and Lights, since you PM'ed me with this question, I dedicate this thread to you !

My mom told me that she would never date/marry another white collar man (my dad). My step-dad is blue collar but awesome. He gets her and they have a great marriage.

Like I said, this thread was NOT meant to be gloating, but to suggest to my fellow love shackians who might be lonely, to try something that worked for me : "Tearing down my wall of preferences" and allowing the universe to give me what IT thought I needed, not what I thought I wanted:)

Ya know ?

I confess that when I dared to wander "outside the box" I fell madly in love!! So, I totally know what you mean!

Ha ha, good for you ! I dated a cop once, but he was an eccentric genius that the force just could'nt get rid of. The MD I dated wasn't nearly as intelligent. ( see where this is heading, guys?)

I have always been open to PROFESSIONS, dated docs, lawyers, musicians, junkies, restauranteurs, truck drivers, whatever.

My "wall of preferences" came more with age, and physical attribute clauses.

{Yeah, I still need a tall, skinny guy with a full head of hair, I'm not completely " healed " lol}

I hear you!

I live my life outside the box, and am happier for it. The saddest times of my life were when I was trying to fit in a box that wasn't made for me.

WORD LB !!! That's why I'm glad that I was fortunate to live long enough to learn that lesson about life and myself ! If the mysoginists on here, the religious right, the neighbors, et al, don't like it, you KNOW what they can kiss !:p

( though actually, they will never be that LUCKY ! )

Yeah, a "head" of full hair is an absolute requisite as is the 'height' and 'weight", all of which he had in glorious abundance!!

But, hey, who's thinking "inside the box?"

"Not me, not me," said the little one with his hand stuck in the "cookie" jar!:D:D

Good advice!

I think many of us are a little too narrow when it comes to partnering, and we get caught in this mindset that we need to have someone that meets every criteria we have. I think you are demonstrating that being a little more open about our options can unveil a mountain of otherwise elusive opportunities.

Cheers!

At least someone is getting some TLC. Glad to hear it.

How many years have you been together?

Posted

Well Mel, if you'll allow, I'll try to keep 'good conversationalist' as part of my criterias.

Didn't we find a solution for that problem? His gag, her iPod, or would that be considered settling?

I've always wanted an older boyfriend. Older, taller, drives a car, helps his mother, good with kids ... siiiigh

But, here I am with a younger guy. You just never know who you'll run into. But I agree; Open up! I was so focused on getting the guy of my dreams (older than me) and then I ran into my boyfriend at a party and I thought, "Hmm. Well, we probably won't last long, might as well have fun!"

But, here we are, 10 months later, still together.

Having subscribed to all the stereotypes my whole life (as well as making up a couple of my own) and placing myself entirely outside the scope of WASP culture, I never thought I'd date a tall white semi-republican fratty frat boy.

But here I am. And I've never felt so secure and comfortable, or been treated so well. Having come from two different parts of the world, and sharing so few expereinces in common, it still surprises me how we ended up with the same sense of humor and of right and wrong, and how we want the same things.
