My boyfriend and I are both 22, fresh out of college. We live in the same city, went to the same high school, and same college. We started dating during our senior year in college. 9 months later yesterday, he broke things off with me.

His parents have never liked me. They had heard false rumors about me from their daughter (who heard it from his ex-girlfriend), and also saw that a lot of my pictures online were me at parties. I've never been a big party girl, but they believe what they see. Then at college graduation, both of our families accidentally bumped into each other. I said "hi nice to meet you," with a smile, but there was no reply and they just stood there glaring at me. According to them, they wanted me to come up to them and make an effort especially because they knew that I knew I had a bad reputation in their household.

But my boyfriend and I decided that we loved each other and worked hard to keep our relationship going. He went on long summer vacations, but we stayed strong. Then one day, he canceled a date we had planned since a long time ago. We hadn't seen each other for two weeks. He said that it was because his parents seemed like they wanted him to stay, and he felt obliged to do so.

We've been having talks since then about our future. We decided that we'd stay together. Then... yesterday, he called me and said that his parents told him that it's EITHER THE GIRL OR THE FAMILY. He says that that wasn't the only reason for the breakup (I can think of other reasons, but most of them are the typical boyfriend-girlfriend fights), but it seems like it has gotten to him. He lives with them, and they both hate me with a passion, so.

I've decided that I won't contact him until he does (if he ever). But does this seem like we will never be together again? Even if it's a few years later?
