almost famous Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 No one is washed up at any age! At 40, I date as much as I did at 25; I get asked out as often as I always have. The men asking me out are around my age - there's plenty of them out there who are also single or divorced - and there are a few outliers in either age direction, just as before. Honestly, the only thing that's changed is my level of confidence has gone up over time. This is exactly what I'm finding, also, although right now I'm not really motivated to date for some reason, just focusing on work and friends.

underpants Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 I am now a contestant (lol) on eharmony. As a 33-year old, I selected 28-48. And after being on the site for about a month now, I have only received ONE match from a man over 40 (he was 46). 95% of my matches have been 30-35. Now, when I was on match.com, where anyone can view your profile, I had guys from 22 - 62 writing me. Why? I had pictures posted. So, what does this tell me? A few things. 2 - it also tells me that lesser evolved men that are seeking casual dating ARE looking for much younger women based purely off their physical appeal. So, that's my personal scientific study. I edited your opening post to get to the truth. Good luck.

underpants Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 LOL, Unders. Well, the other part was significant too, me thinks. I'm glad I could make you laugh. If it makes you feel better I was rejected by Eharmony. (I don't know why?) However there was a time when I played with match. Being the little science nerd that my heart tells me to be I posted 2 separate profiles and watched the same men, with the same opening lines respond. I was disheartened and canceled the subscription. It felt a little like shopping for a relationship to me and odd. I remember one dude was engaged but I guess was playing the field and wanted to know he still had "it". My take is that there are a select few sincere people on relationship sites. There are treasured souls out there. However, swim carefully. Shark invested waters, and you are swimming blindly in most cases. Just be careful and smart Jilly. I do want you to find your gentle giant.

I do want you to find your gentle giant. Thanks, Unders! That's very sweet of you. I think on match, I met a lot more guys who were very casually dating. And yes, there were guys who you could tell were sending canned responses. E-harmony is supposed to be more serious-relationship minded people. And honestly, from what I have seen, I agree. It's a very different vibe. You don't see shirtless pics, and guys out drinking with their friends, or pics with Jenna Jameson (types). For me, since I work with dancers, and lemme tell ya, the myth is true that few of the men are straight (except the hiphop guys, and, er, not my vibe), this seemed like a way to expand my dating options. I'd still like to think I will meet a guy getting coffee or picking out fruit in Vons.
