I have noticed this probably since the 90's...before that, I thought women weren't all that crazy about sports in general, like watching it on TV, so many "Football" widows/wives, etc etc.

Now, in personal ads, I am seeing women that are hardcore fans of teams as much as some men are these days.

(Heck, it can be a deal breaker to women for a man not to be into sports)

It was kind of funny, because me and some friends were out, about 3 of us guys, and 2 girls...one girl was a big Boston Red Sox fans, and she was attempting to discuss the team with us....and we had blank stares on our faces when she was discussing the stats.....

ANd she was like, "What, none of you MEN are into sports?!?!"

lol

I do think more women are into sports.. maybe it is because we drag them to the football games and sports bars and they finally realize that it can be fun to watch and be part of...

That being said though I have noticed that in online dating almost all women mention that they like football or sports of some kind...

They are just trying to show that they can be real and have something in common with men..

Most women I met online weren't into football all that much even though they stressed it on their profile that they were...

LOL...yeah...I was wondering if this is a method to attract men to them as well.

Although, I did see a woman state in her profile, "If you're not into sports, then pass me on by, because it won't work"

And I thought it was kind of stupid for her to say that....this just adds to the big question "Why are you STILL single". lol

To some, it's a DEAL Breaker if you don't follow sports as descriptly as they do.

I mean, I know how the game plays and the teams and such..I would rather watch a Sunday afternoon movie with my date, than sit and watch boring ol' football....it's too "routine".

Because they want a MAN not a panzie.

If you can't discuss the Red Sox, then you deserve to be dismissed.

But I got into sports to meet guys, and for the buffalo wings. Had NOTHING to do with growing up in Boston and being a legacy to the pain. lol

I grew up in a household of three hardcore, near cross the board, male sports fans. Ask a stat, not to worry, someone has the answer right off the top of their heads with some little unknown anecdote that they've sourced out. With this in mind, how can you not learn to enjoy sports, or at least certain ones?

I can't stand football or soccer but LOVE hockey and like baseball. I'm not a hardcore fan with stats but I do know what I'm talking about, with hockey. I can hockey talk with hardcore men and teach them a thing or two about playmaking and strategies, or observational flaws/positive non-puck related plays. Much of hockey is about what happens away from the puck. It also helps that I used to play different types of hockey and non-comp co-ed baseball. :)

Men who like sports: Manly, confident, has a hobby, has friends/teammates, won't rely on you for happiness.

Men who don't like sports: feminine, clingy, too sensitive, will rely on you for entertainment and happiness.

Would this make women manly, too? LOL!

Nope, wrong, men who don't like sports have other interests.

Don't know where you got this from.

I got attached to football because I was in marching band and watched it so much that it was really the only sport I understood besides tennis. So I was never into any major league teams just my high schools whom arnt very good anyway, eh.

Why do I deserve to be dismissed? People have their own interests, mines just has nothing to do with the Red Sox.

Of course, I could a accuse you for being a phoney for pretending to like sports.

Which is worse, me for being honest, or you for, well, pulling a ruse to get men to be interested in you?

Alot of dumbasses on this message board.

You have to be a dumbass that "Not liking sports" makes you a panzie.

It's their perception. They prefer the guy out at the game with his buddies over the "nice" guy who visits the museum and reads books.

It's no different than assuming women who like sports aren't feminine. It's all generalizations of which more often than not, perception, rather than reality.

People tend to feel threatened by what they can't understand.

Well, I don't visit museums, I read some, but.... my interest more lie in the outdoors.

Kayaking, Hiking, Biking...mostly outdoor related.

Yes, instead of sitting at home for hours or at a bar on a Saturday.

So while some guys beer guts get bigger, I'm getting some exercise.

LOL

Not sure what I do for fun is more or less manly than what they do for fun....even as a perception.

I never said it was not feminine.

Actually, I'm thinking of it really, might be far off on this one, but one woman on this thread DID admit getting into sports solely to get men interested in them.

I just don't understand how it has become a deal breaker with some single women.

I like guys like this way more!

I don't see anything masculine, interesting or attractive about a guy who spends all weekend drinking budwiser, eating chicken wings and screaming at his tv while he's so out of shape himself that there is no way he could ever play a game of whatever sports he claims to love.

I enjoy going to a baseball game with a group of friends once in a great while but I'm so glad I have a bf who likes to get out there and do things and doesn't really care about "the game"

I'm not saying it's true, but it's how women will perceive things. Don't take it personally.

There are different motivations for different women. You can't use broad brush strokes for an entire gender.

Some men get into sports because it's expected of them. No biggy. Whatever floats anyone's boat.

I think it's fun to watch sports with my guy, but he's really only into football and hockey. If he watched every game all the time, I'd only watch with him occasionally. He gets all revved up, testosteroney, and vocal when he watches games, which I find very hot.

If it's just me, as a former competitive tennis player, I love to watch tennis. I am also LOVING the Olympics right now -- always have.

I have dated guys who were into watching sports and not. Pretty much all of them have enjoyed playing sports to some degree, which is pretty much a requirement since I'm athletic and wouldn't want to date a couch potato. I think the generalizations are true -- the more masculine the guy, the more likely he is to enjoy watching sports. And usually the better he is in bed.

I think women claim to "love sports" that men love, so that they will be seen as fun to hang out with. She envisions her SO friends saying to him "Wow, you have the coolest girlfriend! I wish my girlfriend liked football!"

But, rarely do any of these women have a clue about sports. Understanding sports is something that comes naturally to most men, so we have much more knowledge. I would much rather date a woman that embraces her femininity instead of trying to be one of the guys.

It also sounds just ridiculous. It's like a guy saying "i love soap operas" thinking that will get him in with the girl he wants to date. Obviously this might turn women off more than it turns them on. Same with the women who claim to loves watching sports.

That's actually a very good point. Men want to romance a woman, not another man. (Well, unless he's gay.)

First off, it was a JOKE. Lighten up. A lot folks on here know I am a huge Red Sox fan. RELAX.

Secondly, the other comment was ALSO a joke. I grew up in baseball, as my uncle managed the Red Sox for a few years, and I have always been interested in pro sports. It's a Boston thing - lol. And not just because of the pro athletes I have dated (that's also a sarcastic comment Hi, just so you know). lol

Gosh Hi, with these kinds of reactions, no wonder you are doing so badly with OLD. :( You need to be able to understand sarcasm a little better, me thinks, and not be so intensely defensive...

And FWIW, I totally agree with the comment that a lot of women view men who aren't sporty as pansies. Same thing if I can outlift a guy in the gym. Just makes you a a whole lot less masculine, IMO. But, some women like the metro type who eschew sports of any kind, so there you go.

LOL...no problem...but one has to also know, it's hard to pick up on sarcasm, voice tones, mannerisms and body language online.

Had we been talking face-to-face, I probably would have picked up on that easy.

Thank you for the clarification though. :)

You're welcome!

OK, I have to go back to the game. Sox are playing the White Sox in Chicago and we're up 3-1. :)

LOL...actually, I got this woman, she's a body builder that has a thing for me, met online...but she's a good distance away...she's...get this a body builder AND likes video games alot.

Wierd combo I know...she could probably put my in a sleeper hold and I'd die a happy man.

I was telling her, "Dang, you got thigh muscles that could crack a man's ribs, you could get ANY guy, and I figured you'd only be interested in "buff" men, and she said she liked me because of the "whole" package.

Personality, made her laugh, etc, etc. I guess my skinny arse was a non-issue with her.

On THAT note, I have noticed really fit women like her, aren't into their equivelants because they were to into themselves.
