Okay, this is an offshoot to carrot10's thread about why she loves her dog!

I love my cat because he's:

  • So fiercely independent that I can barely pick him up. He always has to initiate contact and I have to pay attention to him if he wants it 'cause he'll keep harassing me until I do.
  • He does tricks for treats.
  • He's really strong but his fur is so soft and silky.
  • He's an absolute hottie!
  • He never stops talking but uses 100 different sounds and voices.
  • When he plays with his totally abused, stuffed monkey, he uses a different voice. I think they have a love/hate, I don't want to know about, relationship.
  • When I feel sad, he always stays close to me.
  • His purr is so loud and when he's laying on me, my entire body rumbles with it.
  • He's very bossy and arrogant.
  • He does silly things like race around, crashing into a wall or chair, then pretends it never happened.
  • He truly loves me and I love him.

Posted

  • He doesn't take up 3/4 of the bed when he sleeps with me.
  • He'll cuddle me when I'm sad and upset, instead of ignoring me or running away.
  • He's soft, and snuggly and doesn't whine when I kiss him over and over.
  • He doesn't make fun of me for the baby talk.
  • He's content to sit there and allow me to engage him when I feel like it.
  • When he "steps out on me," all I have to do is say his name and he'll happily come right back.

And, finally...

When he pukes, it's because he's sick or he has a hairball; not because he's plastered.

  • And sometimes, when he loves me best, he'll throw up on tile instead of the carpet! I have no idea what I did to deserve such a rare treat.

Posted

  • When he walks away with his tail held high and his cute little puckered butthole winking back, I know he's doing it just for me.

Posted

  • because he always knows how to cheer me up
  • He loves to talk
  • He is good with babies especially when the babies grab his tail, he just lays there.
  • he knows where to find me.
  • great to cuddle upto.

Dare I analyze this issue?

Sounds like an well balanced, confident, alpha male cat when he is not sniffing cat nip.

You didn't mention claws, I mean furniture, so I presume your furniture is not his scratching post?

Considering his "normal" behavioural patterns, there's no way I would give him catnip. And silly as it sounds, I don't believe in catnip.

As for my furniture, yes, he's done a number on a few items when he was younger when I wasn't home. Since that time, he's learned his manners but has to be reminded here and there of unacceptable behaviours.

Speaking of alpha, he doesn't hiss, he growls like dog, deep in his chest. When he gets mad, the fur stands up all down the center of his back and he's very aggressive with claws and teeth. He's also a very, very large cat, not fat, all muscle. For fun, he'll hook your clothing unexpectedly with a claw while you walk by.

And yet, most often, he's the sweetest, friendliest cat you've ever met. Very social with guests, always on his best behaviour. He's very bright in that he responds to quite a number of command words, once again, like a dog.

A complex combination of extremes, is the love of my life. I don't need to date a hero, just someone real who loves and accepts me.

I have a kitten but she hates me so I'll write about my ferret.

  • He lays on my feet and keeps them warm when I do dishes.
  • He lets me know when I do wrong by biting my ankles.
  • When he worries about my unhealthy eating he makes sure to get on the night stand and get into my cheese-its.
  • He stays in the bathroom while I shower to ensure I do not drown.
  • He's a people person and loves my friends.

Your male cat sounds like a keeper. A very considerate animal. Just be careful when he starts to display doormat qualities. Don't let him become one of those victim guys!

my kitty lets me do raspberries on her tummy.

And than I can cradle her like a little baby.

She always makes sure I am well fed by brining home, mice, moles & birds.

She keep my place in a the bed warm for me.

She always cuddles with me when I am sick.

and helps keep me thin by sharing all my food.

Do you have a place setting for her at the table? Maybe a placemat with little fish or other forms of adorable prey? ;)

hhmm maybe I should get one. with a little kitty napkins to tie around her neck.

Seriously though this new cat eats everything. You can't put down a plate and get up without her eating it!

...then he comes and licks your face, probably, right?

tanny, dogs are fantastic about recycling cat poop.

my cat ... *sigh* ... it's a love-hate relationship at best. On the days he's my sweet baby, I can hold him in lap while he naps and he's just the sweetest things. But when those "teen" hormones kick in, he's a little punk-*ss cat who thinks he's supposed to do his best to maim me. Then he cries when I close the bedroom or bathroom door for privacy.

he drives me crazy, to say the least. At least the dog is sedate since he's such an old fellow.

Well we have two cats. One is about 12 years old. She's white with black spots. She looks like a little cow. Her name is Little Kitty. She's mostly my cat. She's annoyingly affectionate sometimes. She even follows me into the bathroom and insists that I pet her at the most inopportune times.

She's a sweet cat though.

Our other cat, Rudy is a male. He's only about 2 years old. He's a big pain. Every time we step into the laundry room he thinks we're there to feed him since that's where their food bowls are. He eats constantly.

He's very cute though. He's a tabby and is mostly our son's cat. But when our son is spending the night at one of his friend's houses, he cuddles up with me.

He's also very vocal and is constantly meowing and rolling over and rubbing up against my legs when I'm busy doing things.

He's extremely mischievous though. He digs in our indoor plants and knocks things off the bookshelves so that he can secure a birds-eye spot for himself to oversee things.

They both can be quite entertaining though. Although I don't quite get the "sniffing each other's butt" thing. What's up with that?

They play games with each other all the time too and it's fun to watch them interact.

The little young male has claws and is so much stronger but he's afraid of the older clawless female.

Anyway, I love, love, love cats. Can't stand dogs. I love to talk about my cats and hear about other people's cats.

And yes, TBF my cat absolutely knows when I'm not feeling well. She is always extra affectionate then.

Also, I'd love to hear about how other cats act when their owner's go away. Rudy acts the same but Little Kittly isn't so friendly. She lets me know she's not too happy about our leaving.

She's normally not a very vocal cat but when we leave and come back from being away, she meows and yowls and complains. Also, she sometimes drools on me which I've read means they are super excited.

Cats are so interesting and funny, aren't they?

Fortunately he's not much of a licker. He loves to suckle the tip of his own tail though. It's some sort of fetish. :D

Dogs are cool but I don't like small dogs and my apartment isn't big enough for a big dog. :)

am not a small dog fan, either, but we inherited my mother's yorkie, who has an amazing personality for a "small" dog. And he's as smart as the dickens, too. Once he's gone, though, I think we're getting a dog-sized dog, a man's dog, from what my husband says. Which would be cool, I like big dogs.

Sorry to go OT, TBF but Quank that's one adorable baby. Are you related?

There's a continuity to this thread, where most cats seem to intuitively sense negative emotion or lack of physical well-being of the people they keep and try to comfort them.

Touche, your Rudy is so much like my Sebby. Loud and proud.

No worries about going OT, according to me as the OP, that is. ;)

Yes, big dogs are da' best! Small dogs can be cute, but far from my preference. My current favourite is the black Shep and I would get one but don't have the room. So smart and gorgeous. It's a shame that Sheps have that fear/biting issue but if trained properly and loved dearly, can overcome this instinctual habit.

My cats do this as well, and I don't get it.. Is it a sexual thing?? I hope not.. my cats are brother and sister!

That is the truth, a cat came between me and my ex to be petted. I think it was because we had an argument before and sitting on opposite ends of the couch. After we kissed, I think the cat sensed something and ran out of the room.:eek::love: Such a nice cat.

Now I want to get a pair of Siamese cats. Let both of them talk to each other at night.

:( My cat Coco passed away last week. I miss her so much.

One of our other cats is really cuddling up to me since then. I think he knows how much I miss her, he does too. They both used to sleep together at the foot of my bed, so cute how he used to protect her.
