pr-girl Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 So, I've been working as my boss's publicist for 7 months now. I never worked in this particular industry before (I was always in media, now I'm on the other side in public relations, but for a relationship and sex author). My real dream is to get back into the music industry (radio) and be a publicist to a very talented musician and artist. Music is my passion. Recently, an LA-based artist and his manager have been working with me to get some venues secured for him to perform in Las Vegas, where I live. I am so stoked because I was a HUGE fan of his prior to even meeting him. Here's my challenge: I can't seem to focus here at work when my heart is with another career choice. My current job pays me very well and the artist can't quite afford me yet, but I KNOW he WILL - and he and his manager have committed to commissioning me on any monetary gigs I attach him to. How do I focus on the current job more without taking away from a HUGE opportunity for me? I want to move back to LA and live my dream by the beach, but I need a job there first. This artist may be that break for me, but it's not the right time yet. Do I just continue to juggle and give just enough effort to maintain my current gig?
