Nantes Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Okay, so I’m not a frequent sender of text messages from my cell phone. Not that I’m a luddite or anything, it’s just usually faster for me to call and talk to someone rather than type the message into my cell phone. My friends are similar, so I don’t receive a lot of texts either. However, I’ve noticed that many peoples' main form of communication is texting from their cell phone or other mobile device. Chances are high that I may start to meet and/or date men who are big on texting, so I’d like to learn a bit more about proper text messaging etiquette. I think it’s weird when I see people texting during a movie. Or at a concert, they will stand there the whole time texting and not even look up at the performer. Also I’ve seen couples walking down the street together but both of them are ignoring each other to tap messages into their phones! I’d like to hear your general tips and opinions on text message usage in the dating arena. I know everyone has their own text style, but I’d just like to get a general survey of what you all think is appropriate. Any funny stories about texting are welcome too For example, what are your answers to the following questions: How quickly must one reply to a text message? Are responses expected within a certain time period, and if no response is received within that time period, is it assumed you are ignoring the sender? If no specific question is asked in the text, should I still reply to acknowledge the message? Would you ask someone out via text?

I can save you a lot of time and tell you that for each question, you will find many people that believe in all parts of the spectrum. Best to do what you're comfortable with. After all, it's always better to be true to yourself than to worry about what others think of you.
