Sirenz Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Just wondering... Had a breakup about a month ago. I ended it because the writing was on the wall and it was obvious that he just couldn't do it. I left him a vm, and didn't hear from him or contact him until yesterday. He dropped my things by the house, we had a bit of small talk, he left, and as he was leaving, he said "don't be a stranger". I know I'm probably reaching here, but what would be the purpose of this statement after a breakup?
Treasa Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I don't think it necessarily meant anything. It could have just been one of those things people say. Maybe he didn't know what else to say and wanted to be polite. I wouldn't read anything into it unless he starts communicating with you after this.
Tyra Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 He means that he still wants the two of you to be friends, or just to stay in contact with him.
coffeemaker Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I used it once to mean: "don't contact me, cause i'm not gonna make the effort to be friends, but if we bump into each other, we can talk, catch up for a bit, and be otherwise friendly and civil w/o having to resort to ignoring one another. who knows something may (unlikely) change." sigh - maybe i should have just that
babes23 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I think when a relationship ends we tend to analyse even the smallest of things, i'd just see it as a passing comment and wouldn't look too much into it.
Author Sirenz Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Babes, you're probably right. Though I can see CoffeeMakers point, this man specifically asked if we could remain friends and I told him no...that was four weeks ago. He knows I won't make attempts to keep in contact with him.
