shadowplay Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 The lyrics to this song struck a chord with me at the age of 19 when I was first dealing with heartbreak and they still do. Rows and floes of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons evrywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and junes and ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say I love you right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really dont know life at all.
Author shadowplay Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 What's the purpose of this post? I don't get it. I think it illuminates something about love that a lot of people can relate to. If you don't get it, don't bother responding.
Author shadowplay Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 I don't believe in the concept of love. To me it's a figmant of someone's imagination. There is no universal concept of love and if love is this wonderful emotion why do people get hurt? Love is like religion, it fills the void of some unknown event or chain reaction. I certainly haven't been in love and I doubt I ever will be. Because in my mind, it's a false emotion. I don't really believe in love either, at least romantic love. Whatever people mistake for love is too fleeting and flimsy to be the real thing.
Trimmer Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I have always loved this song, too. However, I will say that Judy Collins' original recording is my favorite, as if you hear her perform it now (just tune in to one of those PBS "where are they now" concert specials...) she sings the lyrics about a beat ahead of how she did it on the original. Very stylized, but I just don't like it. Just my opinon. There, I've said it. Havng said that, I love the song, too, and it does recall memories of my youth...
BlueEyedGirl Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Yes, that song sums up PERFECTLY how I feel about love. Love it.
