Ronni_W Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 So no one favors the " I dont know who I am"..."I need to find myself" line lol?? I'll vote for this one -- lie to me through your teeth, please...and then just make sure I don't find out your truth...cos then I'll have to come after you...and then it won't be pretty...for either of us . EDIT: Oops...no I vote for the lie, however you had originally phrased it
Ingenue Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I'd rather hear the truth too, as painful as it may be to digest. Having been dumped by a man who was brutally honest with me, at least I can appreciate the truth. I will say that I prefer to hear the truth in a more palatable way. So instead of saying "I'm dumping your a$$ because I want to go screw many other women", I'd much rather hear "I'm uncertain about our relationship and can no longer convince myself that we should aim for a future together. I need to date others to learn about myself". The screwing other women is implied in the latter, but at least it's phrased more nicely to cushion the blow.
Author nopainnogain Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 I'd like to hear, "I'm not good for you and I'm never going to change. You need to be with someone who deserves to be with you." I would hate to hear that. Actually,I was fed that BS.
1bee Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 it doesn't matter what you hear because it comes down to the same thing in the end. they left because they grew apart. because if they "will always love you" like they say, then they wouldn't be leaving you or abandoning you. sugarcoating doesn't help.
Author nopainnogain Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 Makes me feel good to know "I will always have a special place in her heart "
Nevermind Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 The truth is always the best. You can say it nicely, or brutal, in the end it doesn't really matter. Saying the truth is a sign of respect. If you don't say the truth and it comes out later, it will hurt your XSO. There is nothing wrong with falling in love with another person. But there is everything wrong with lieing about it.
Prodigal Princess Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I think it's easy to say that you'd rather hear the truth. In reality, I wonder how many people could actually handle it... A friend of mine wanted to take the "high road" breaking up with his girlfriend so was blunt about the fact that he no longer loved her and had found someone else. She went off the rails and killed herself 2 weeks later. I think he could just as easily have given her a fluff line and dissapeared without spelling everything out for the poor girl. I'd choose the second option, and make myself believe it. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
pandagirl Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Brutal honesty is always the best. I sort of got the good and the bad in one break up: "I know we are going to break-up, but I really want to have sex with you," followed by, "You're perfect, there's just something MISSING," followed by, "I feel like there's something wrong with me, I mean, you are so wonderful..."

And then when you stopped gagging? "It's me, not you!" Boo-hoo. Sob, sob!!! That's when the boot should have planted in his @ss!!!
