Lovely Disaster Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 No one was calling him a scumbag. It's apparent that the woman had some legal rights due to how much money she lost in changing her life for the contract she made with the man while he is out nothing. Gifts don't count, those were his choice, and even if he did pay that much in gifts, it still doesn't cover the loss of salary. It could be many more years of lost salary if she can't secure a similar position. However, he didn't leave his higher paying job and rearrange his life to marry her, only to have her break it off three days before the wedding. So...that appears to be it. Just like someone stated, how is this win affecting anyone? She had the right to take it to court, she did, she won.....ok????
woods321 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Lovely, if you don't like the thread why do you keep posting on it. The guy who spilled coffee on himself at Mcdonalds won 1 million dollars. Does that mean it is right? Every clumsy person should get 1 million? Did you look up punitive damages yet in the dictionary? That is what she was awarded. Not actual damages. The man is out nothing? He spent over 50,000 on this whore. She just wanted a wallet. He was smart enough to finally realize that. Good for him.
Lovely Disaster Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Where does it say I don't like the thread? You just can't handle that I make some valid points. We don't know all the details, the woman was really financially screwed by this guy's actions, she sued, she won. He wasn't out $50,000 a year of his salary, which could take a while to find a similar paying job for her, plus she might have to move again to find a job of that stature. She isn't a whore, it's just that she rearranged her life including letting go of a high paying job. Nuff said.
xpaperxcutx Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 ............. A_C I believe this is the first time you're speechless?
imbewildered Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 How is a man a scumbag for breaking off a relationship? Women do it all the time but if a man takes his destiny in his own hands he is a scumbag. Welcome to the crass hypocrisy of modern women. A double standard is very useful to half the population who strive and strain every sinew to avoid accountability for their fumbles and blunders. No wonder men are wary of commitment.

HE may be out $150K but ultimately he dodged a bullet. Can any of you guys imagine h*mping that cow? Eewww !
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 This wasn't a case of a boyfriend dumping a girlfriend...this was a case of a woman moving and taking a lower paying job to be with her fiance, who cancelled the wedding 3 days before. Totally different scenario. Good for her. "Gibbs testified that he had taken Shell on trips and paid $30,000 of her debt while they were engaged. He said when he found out she had even more debt, he canceled the wedding by leaving Shell a note in their bathroom" Ya good for her. He didn't want to be with her because she was shady about her debt. The man paid some of her debt off, then when he found she had more, it was clear that she wasn't up front with him. I wouldn't want to marry someone like that either. She was looking for a sugar daddy. Valuable lesson here men, don't promise a woman anything and do a thorough check on your future spouse to make sure she is who she says she is. Or just don't get married period. I vote for the latter.
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Judges aren't generally known for being stupid. And ridiculously liberal to the point of being communists.
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 It was a jury trial..not ruled from the bench... Id have loved to been on that jury. I'd have said, "order some pizza, cuz its gonna be a looooong night. No way I am awarding someone any money that was looking for a man to pay off her debt"
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Nope. If you read the details, she had an 80,000 a year job and moved for him because he proposed, and had to take a 30,000 a year job to move for him. She wouldn't have moved if he had not proposed marriage. In the course of the testimony, it came out that he never intended to marry her. Why should her life be ruined just because he f**ked with her mind in deceiving her into thinking he was going to marry her? Glad you brought that up. How is that any different from a woman going out and cheating on a man with whom she has a marriage contract with, decides to leave the man, and take him to the cleaners? Wouldn't you think that a jury would award the man monetary compensation because she broke a contract and is trying to "f**" with him?
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Nope, it turns out that he lied - he just made that up that she had a lot of debt. And you found this information where??
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 She earned 81,000 a year and now earns 30. How does 150,000 add up to one years salary? She could probably get her old job back. And if she is valuable enough to make $81 grand, surely she is in enough demand to find another decent paying job. $81,000 minus $30,000. $50,000 difference. $150,000 will carry her for 3 years. She will find a new job within a year and be money ahead. On to her next sugar daddy.
Art_Critic Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 And you found this information where?? Come on dude.. Speaking to Meredith Vieira on Friday's Today show, where she appeared with her attorney Lydia J. Sartain, Shell refuted Gibbs's claim that she was swimming in debt. The allegation, she said, is "simply not true." Here is one clip I found.. you know how to use google don't you ? http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20214931,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines
Art_Critic Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 On to her next sugar daddy. Everyone keeps calling her a gold digger.. Dude.. She gave up a good paying job for a crappy paying one to move to another state to be with the guy.. Then he dumps he with a note while they live together and she is stuck without the xtra 50k a year she gave up to be with him.. How exactly does that make her a gold digger ? Do you know what a gold digger does or how they act ?
Art_Critic Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Id have loved to been on that jury. I'd have said, "order some pizza, cuz its gonna be a looooong night. No way I am awarding someone any money that was looking for a man to pay off her debt" It took a 6 man and 6 woman jury less than 12 hours to come to the conclusion that she was due the money..
woods321 Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 She kept taking the guys money to pay HER debt. Kept accepting vacations. Accepted house payments. Then ONLY wanted to be with him if he would marry her. So then she could get the whole bundle in a few years. She gave up her job for 2 months. She wasnt forced to do anything. She could have kept working and married first, then moved.
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Come on dude.. Here is one clip I found.. you know how to use google don't you ? http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20214931,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines Ya, I do, and I didn't find anything different than what you did. This is the most I can see: Speaking to Meredith Vieira on Friday's Today show, where she appeared with her attorney Lydia J. Sartain, Shell refuted Gibbs's claim that she was swimming in debt. The allegation, she said, is "simply not true." Thats it??? Because she said its "simply not true"? If that is the case, I'm sure her financial records can be pulled up to prove she was not swimming in debt and that 30 grand didn't all of a sudden just get credited to one of her debt accounts.
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Everyone keeps calling her a gold digger.. Dude.. Then he dumps he with a note while they live together and she is stuck without the xtra 50k a year she gave up to be with him.. How exactly does that make her a gold digger ? Do you know what a gold digger does or how they act ? Uh ya, she didn't produce any financial statements apparantly to prove that he did NOT pay off her debt and that she isn't swimming in debt. A gold digger, or someone that wants a sugar daddy, looks for someone that can help them get out of debt.
whichwayisup Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Wow, unbelievable..Just clicked on the link. This has opened a can of worms, pandora's box, whatever - AND set the tone for future outcomes when someone gets dumped. AS LONG AS this can go both ways, then fine. If a man gives up what she gave up and then the woman dumps him just before the wedding, he should get paid off as well. I agree with AC, no man will come near her now.
twice_shy Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 It took a 6 man and 6 woman jury less than 12 hours to come to the conclusion that she was due the money.. Nobody ever said jurors always do whats right.
whichwayisup Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Nobody ever said jurors always do whats right. Can we say OJ?

If a man gives up what she gave up and then the woman dumps him just before the wedding, he should get paid off as well. It'll never happen. A man would be seen as a petty little pimp if he tried what she did. I agree with AC, no man will come near her now. Wouldn't count on it. There is a sucker born every minute.
whichwayisup Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Wouldn't count on it. There is a sucker born every minute. So true. I mean Karla Homolka (google her if you don't know who she is) is married, has a child now and apparently has a better education than me. WTF. Anyway that's another thread for another day.. It'll never happen. A man would be seen as a petty little pimp if he tried what she did. I wouldn't see him as a petty wimp, especially more so now since this news broke about the woman getting $$.
