grogster Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 :lmao: I once told a guy " I haven't met someone that's big enough for me yet." And then he called a freak... That's a good come back. What the guy should have done, instead of insulting you, was get down on one knee and propose. Not fast enough on the draw.
refurb Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Well that's not helpful! It's also usually by guys I'm starting to get to know. Take it as a compliment. I often see pretty girls around and if I found out they were single I would say "Why are you single?". You're taking it the wrong way. RF
Author sweetbutcheeky Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 I get asked this question all the time. My standard response? "I'm not done boozing and whoring yet." I love that one, I'm going to have to steal it! I get it all the time. Not as much a question as a "I escapes me why you're still single". I know it's meant as a compliment but it annoys the hell out of me. I think it's because it almost sounds like a pick up line or an insult ... I get asked all the time. I say because I haven't met a girl who makes me want to stop being single.I like that one too and I think it would make them not sure what to say. The same as I am when I get asked that. I hate this question. What are you supposed to say? Yeah, I must be a real catch! No one's caught me yet!I know and it's awkward. Plus first thing comes to mind all the asses I have dated, but can't really respond with that! lol Maybe he asked you because it was like why is it a hot woman like you doesn't have a boyfriend? did ya take it the wrong way? Take it as a compliment. I often see pretty girls around and if I found out they were single I would say "Why are you single?". You're taking it the wrong way. RF True some may mean it as a complement, some do and it can sound sweet. Though for the most part it does come off like a pick up line. And for the others it comes across like they are waiting for you to say what is wrong with you. I rolled my eyes because this guy asked why was I single ... you are easy to talk to, attractive ... are you picky? Whatever the reason, it's annoying! LOL
FleshNBones Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 When asked, I usually say guys like me aren't in demand. I don't earn enough to provide a first class lifestyle, and I don't have movie star looks. The only ones that seem to show interest are the users and abusers, and life is hard enough as it is. There are excellent single and available women, but I have no access to them.

LOL Ya that would be a turn off I would think, no matter how annoying the question is.
jerbear Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I've asked that before and gotten the following responses haven't found the right onefocused on careerI was engaged to XYZ or LTR and it didn't work out2 dates later, I find bite marksplus others that I don't remember I've been asked this question and responded with: I've said I not focused and to young to settle. I was fresh out of college and didn't know where I want to settle down.I have not found the right one.I don't know why but perhaps we can discuss it over dinner tomorrow. I get asked this question all the time. My standard response? "I'm not done boozing and whoring yet." You know, I would have asked for your number, right then and there. Me: So what is your number? You: No, you're interested because you think I am an easy lay, you're a jerk to think that. Me: Nope, it means you have a sense of humor. So what say you? Dinner? You: Say no, then post on LS saying I was a jerk. Me: clueless guy  :lmao::lmao: Gotta have fun once in awhile.
FleshNBones Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Ya though that would be like be saying all the guys I have dated are *ssholes so no wonder I am single! LOL Ya that would be a turn off I would think, no matter how annoying the question is.Calling some guys *ssholes, and rolling your eyes comes across as having a "bad attitude". I think it would be a turn off. In my case, I'm usually saying these things to my parents. Another thing like to say... Finding someone worthwhile here is very hard. I don't want to marry myself into poverty.
Author sweetbutcheeky Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Calling some guys *ssholes, and rolling your eyes comes across as having a "bad attitude". That was my point, I was being sarcastic. How not to answer ... Rolling my eyes was in response to that specific guy
Green Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I think when a guy asks this question to a girl it should be taken as a compliment. If you think the guy is cute, then you should take it as a flirting and maybe flirt back by saying something like "because you haven't asked me out" or "are you flirting with me" If its just some old guy married guy you work with or some guy your not attracted to you could just answer with "don't ask me rhetorical questions" or "what do you expect me to say to that" Obviously you shouldn't let yourself feel like a looser or crazy when asked this question.

I wouldn't and I would hope no one else would feel like a looser or crazy when asked this question.
bish Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 I get that question mostly from men.. yes, empty pickup lines usually work with some women.
Green Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I wouldn't and I would hope no one else would feel like a looser or crazy when asked this question. Don't feel what ever it is you are feeling and just feel something posotive
Ariadne Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Anyone else sick of being asked that? LOL What do they expect you to say? Nobody "ever" asks me that. Either it's obvious to them, or they assume that at my age I must be married or something. I remember someone asked me that ages ago, and I told him "no luck".
Author sweetbutcheeky Posted July 26, 2008 Author Posted July 26, 2008 Don't feel what ever it is you are feeling and just feel something posotive I never said anything about feeling bad about it or myself when asked. Just found it annoying is all and wondered why ask? I'm single and available .. so are they! They should be happy! lol
LoveLace Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I get asked a lot because I'm in my 30's. And if I can't at least say I've been married in the past, the person seems to become even more puzzled; as though it's more understandable that I'm single because maybe I've been divorced. But since I've never married, I might as well say, no one has ever loved me enough to even consider that with me. It's a dumb question because if we knew the answer we wouldn't be single to begin with.
Leoni Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I think most women get asked this question for assorted reasons. If it's a man, it's to flatter, if it's a woman well... I'm single 'cause it's fun to date around and I'm relationship gun shy.
