I do it too much, and have been for most of my life. I'm a 31 year old woman who has the mouth of a truck driver. Sometimes I feel like I sound so unintelligent.

What is the best way to swear off the swearing?

You could try the old aversion therapy of wearing a rubber band around your wrist, and giving yourself a really good 'zing' every time - you want the consequence to hurt more than the pleasure gained by doing the undesirable behaviour.

I have the same prob with swearing - for me, I think it's 'brain laziness', where I can't be bothered retrieving a more appropriate word from the old RAM - my "pleasure" would be about being able to be lazy.

I also used to have to put a quarter in the 'swear jar' -- when it got up to five bucks and I was STILL swearing...well, that strategy obviously wasn't working for me :o so I gave it up.

I tried the rubber band with changing a pattern of thoughts, and it worked for that -- I was more motivated to make this change than to stop swearing, though.

Good luck!

I think a gal with a foul mouth is cute. My wife

has a foul mouth from time to time and I think it's

adorable. But yeah, i can see how it could become a problem and

it's not very practical.

I'd try speaking and writing my thoughts and training your brain

to catch yourself before you say something bad. Talk to

yourself in the car about something, anything and how you

feel about that topic and just try and speak clearly and

precise with NO curse words and see if you can fix your

speech and clean it out.

In my experience nothing is as affective as asking your close friends to make fun of you whenever they hear a foul word.

The more they are gifted with sense of humor, the sooner you'll lose the bad habit.

Watch the Southpark movie... The scene where Mr. Mackey sings about the alternatives to swearing. I know it by heart. Here you go...

Step 1 instead of "a*s" say "buns" like "kiss my buns" or "you're a bunshole"!

Step 2 instead of "Sh*t" say "Poo" like "bullpoo" "poo head" "this poo is cold"!

Step 3 with B*tch drop the "T" cause "Bich" is Latin for Generosity!

Step 4 don't say "F*ck" anymore cause f*ck is the worst word that you can say... instead just say "M'kay"!
