JoeNewbie Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I was recently interviewed for a job by this woman who is older than me. She smiled a lot and kept very good eye contact. On our second meeting she wore a really nice dress and looked very sexy. Of course she ended up hiring me. Everytime I run into her she gives me a very warm smile and always calls me by my name. Do you think these are good signs? Should I ask her out? How should I do this?
Star Gazer Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I think her warm demeaner is consistent with that of a friendly HR manager. If she was interested and had half a brain, she would actually NOT hire you so that she CAN date you.
Author JoeNewbie Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 What you say makes sense. She does look at me a lot and even touched my arm when I made a joke. I read a lot on ASKMEN and it seems like these are clear signs.
Star Gazer Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 ASKMEN is written by men. If you want to know what a WOMAN is thinking, ask a woman. That said, playful touching IS flirtatious. But seeing as she's significantly older than you and the HR manager, I have to question whether she's sincerely interested in the same thing you are.
jerbear Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Do you think these are good signs? Should I ask her out? How should I do this? No, don't fish in the company pond. If you really want to, transfer to another division before asking her out. She married?
Author JoeNewbie Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 No, don't fish in the company pond. If you really want to, transfer to another division before asking her out. She married? No she's not married. She's the HR manager for the entire company... But this is just a summer job for me.
Star Gazer Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 No she's not married. She's the HR manager for the entire company... But this is just a summer job for me. Okay, so you want to potentially destroy a good reference, presumably the entire reason you're working there for the summer?
jerbear Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 No she's not married. She's the HR manager for the entire company... But this is just a summer job for me. I'll have to agree with SG. This is just a summer job, not worth losing a good reference when you're just starting out. A job is a job not a dating pool.
Author JoeNewbie Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Okay, so you want to potentially destroy a good reference, presumably the entire reason you're working there for the summer? I guess you are right. She is so beautiful though. She's probably 35 years old. I go crazy when she walks around the office in a sexy dress. Do you think a 35 year old woman would ever date a 20 year old?
Star Gazer Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Do you think a 35 year old woman would ever date a 20 year old? Date? No. Use for sex and ruin his reputation within an entire industry such that he will never be gainfully employed after college? Sure, it's possible.

Do you think these are good signs? Should I ask her out? How should I do this? I would not ask her out. Focus on your new job! If you ask her out and get rejected, you will feel really crappy. If she goes out with you, you are only going to complicate your job. Don't sh*t where you eat! (is that the right saying?)
jerbear Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I guess you are right. She is so beautiful though. She's probably 35 years old. I go crazy when she walks around the office in a sexy dress. Do you think a 35 year old woman would ever date a 20 year old? Control your hormones. I would say keep the comments to yourself, you don't want to get fired due to sexual harassment. Having a sexual harassment rap sheet is not something you want for a summer fling. In regards to dating, not for the long term.

Do you think a 35 year old woman would ever date a 20 year old? Of course... From what I read.. she could be attracted to you.. that is very possible and that could be why she hired you.. who knows? You probably have a good idea if she's flirting with you.. we don't... so go with the flow and just wait for the right opportunity. Maybe you can ask her, jokingly, if she would date a younger guy.. she might get the message... Methink she likes you a lot.. I am presently dating a guy who is 20 years younger.. so yes it is very possible that people with huge age gap.. date.. I'm not talking about marriage or long term but a 'summer fling' yes..
Trialbyfire Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Go ahead, hit on the HR Manager. Hiring isn't the only responsibility for an HR Manager...
audrey_1 Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Can't believe I just read this situation. Um, yeah, I ended up engaged to my sweet, neighborhood HR manager. It was very close to becoming ugly, as he was asked to leave the company around the same time we'd been hiding it for over a year. And we're not sure if this is why. They didn't really give him a reason, but they did give him a severance package. It was nice then to be able to go out in public, like normal people, not ducking behind things or staying at home all the time. But I broke the engagement when we had this free time to spend with each other. It revealed key differences between us that wouldn't have been good in a marriage. So, my point. Summer job, friendly hiring manager, potential good reference, etc. etc. Nah. Skip it.

Do you think a 35 year old woman would ever date a 20 year old?[/quote ] A big fat NO! I'm 31 and wouldn't date a 28. Anyways, that's just me perhaps. I'm hesistant to think she's romantically attracted to you. Most good HRs act in the same way. At her age, she has plenty of other good options than dating a 20yo who happens to be an employee at the same office she works for. If anything, you're the one who sounds interested with her.
Ruby Slippers Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Why not pursue this once your summer job is over?
Star Gazer Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Go ahead, hit on the HR Manager. Hiring isn't the only responsibility for an HR Manager... Hint: It rhymes with "hiring"...
jerbear Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Hint: It rhymes with "hiring"... I thought HR was also responsible for Benefits and Compensation.
