Yes, there's a lot of single standards scattered around the place. For my knowledge, men boast they want experienced women and when a woman has had ten or more sexual partners these men then complain about them being sluts.

Not this man.

I wasn't talking about you specfically. Just men in general.

If these men can't handle the fire, they should get the hell out of the kitchen. Talk is cheap at the end of the day. Most men are just talk.

I just want a woman who has some experience. I don't want the town slut.

what's wrong with dating a virgin though? provided that you get along well. I've seen guys do it, but even then dumping someone purely because she is a virgin is a bit nasty.

I wouldn't have a problem dating a virgin, as long as we clicked, which goes for any woman. I never said that I would dump someone for being a virgin. Ideally though, I would like for the woman I am dating to have some experience.

I agree, it is nasty.

A girl who I liked disclosed information that she has not had sex and it hasn't put me off at all. What she doesn't know is that I am also a virgin and I'm not sure how she'll react to that, if and when I tell her.

yeah sorry , someone on the thread(the OP herself I think) said something about it.

personally I won't date a virgin , because well, they can be boring when you actually get down to doing things. I'm experienced so I like women with experience.

carhill, can I ask what you thought was "wrong" with you if you were a 30+ virgin?

Perhaps more different than wrong, I preferred to wait until I found someone with whom I could have a committed relationship with. This decision/process was clouded/confused by other romantic and psychological circumstances, outlined in my journals. For many years, I had a hard time looking at any (other) woman with serious romantic interest. I also was and still am focused on intellectual and creative pursuits and truthfully don't commit a lot of time to sexual/romantic stuff.

So, if there was something "wrong" with me, the above is likely it. I'm just wired up differently than most men. I'm not "normal", as my wife puts it :D

lol... well... boring people do boring things... it doesn't automatically have any thing to do with experience...

you know who else is boring? close-minded people...

Well, it's my personal choice.

When you're 20 something, you don't want to be with someone who is pretty much clueless.

AND also

I dated a virgin some months ago, she became so clingy after we slept together, it was a bit too much.

hmm ok.

different strokes for different folks!

maybe it stems from insecurity?

OP, how old are you? You say 20+, that's quite vague.

I am 27. The reason why I asked a general question because, well, when I was 20, my bf at that time had completely freaked out when he found out that I hadn't ever had sex.

I'm kind of surprised I'm the first guy in this thread to say this but I wouldn't want to date a virgin. I'd have two main concerns:

1. She might end up like that "stage 5 clinger" girl in Wedding Crashers once she did lose her virginity. :D

2. Further along into the relationship she might wonder what it's like to be with other men. I'd rather she get a little experience under her belt beforehand.

If I were in my early 20's I'd probably be happy to date a virgin but at this point in life I'd rather date a woman who knows what she's doing in the bedroom.

This is a good post, I completely agree with it and I think it is even worth repeating here. I am a 30 year old male and I have to say that I would be very very careful about getting into a serious relationship with a woman who was lacking in experience.

This is not just about the lack of sexual experience but I also think it is important for a woman to be with a few guys so she has a better idea of what she wants and does not want...

At some point later she will start wondering if she might have missed out on something. I have seen many relationships end because of this.

you'd break up over it even if you've been together for some time?

I don't really understand your comment...

It is pretty easy to tell if someone has some experience or does not so I don't see how one would even get to the point of "being together for some time" and not knowing.

I did not say that this issue would be a knock-out criteria but it would be a serious concern.

I know a a coupe of guys who found out their girlfriends were inexperienced after having been with them for a while, and subsequently broke up.

I guess there are some things like that I would figure out before I get "serious" with someone.

But I can understand their concerns, it is a huge risk in my opinion.

It may be a huge risk, but it still is nasty to break up with someone purely because he or she does not have experience.

they had assumed that there was something wrong with their girlfriends(frigid, etc.), because they were virgins at 24/25.

The reason you mentioned was fine, but this did not seem like a valid concern to me.

I had been with the guys for some time, so yeah, it was well into into the relationships.

maybe in the 30's people might mind, but 20's should be sort of ok?
