Mimic Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Hi everyone. So, yesterday I went on a first date with this girl i got set up with for a blind date. We went for a coffee, and in my opinion we had a good time, we got to know each other a bit better then over the e-mails that we send each over over the past week. Now, my doubt is the following: she is taking english lessons from Monday till Friday at nights after her work (we live in Costa Rica). So, I think that the best time to go on a date is in the weekend, at least for as long as we are not in a real relationship. How long should I wait to call her and how long should I wait to ask on a second date?
Arise_Serpentor Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Why dont you call her in a couple days! No longer than that! Or, if you want to be yourself, call her when YOU feel like it! Dont be a pest, but be you! And its not so much that you call, but what you say when you call! I'd hurry! she might forget about you !
Prodigal Princess Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Two days is standard, and ask her on a second date this weekend on that phone call. No dilly dallying, son!
Author Mimic Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Another question, how important is it for you girls that the guy has a job? I ask because the friend that set me up with her called me after the date and asked how it went and in the conversation it came up that the only thing this girl didn't like about me is that I am without a job. This was right after the first date, so my friend only knows about what the girl thinks about me from what we said in those emails. A little bit about me, I am from France and don't have a residency/work permit, so it is kind of hard to find a job for me, and this came up during the date. She told me that her cousin is a lawyer and would inquire for me about my situation and what my possibilities are. Know, what can I expect? Is the fact that I don't have a job a deal breaker, or does my current situation attenuate this problem? Does the inquiry she'll do mean something or is it just a proposal for help.
Mary3 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Do you have savings $$$ and able to stand on your own financially while you look for a job ??
Author Mimic Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Do you have savings $$$ and able to stand on your own financially while you look for a job ?? Yes, I'm still in college and have a scholarship that allows me to live reasonably well.
Mary3 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Well most women are not to keen dating a man with no job. Just being honest.
Author Mimic Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 And what about my situation, the fact that I can't find a job so easy for not having a work permit. I try to get a job, but everywhere I got the door slammed in my face because of this. As I said, I told her this.

I know employers can get in alot of trouble. I know its not your fault. What is your long term plan ?
Author Mimic Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Though question! The laws became very strict and it is almost impossible to get a residency. The only sure way is to get married (or win the lottery and invest the money, lol). I'm still looking for someone who will take the risk of hiring me.
Mary3 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Did you research this before you came here ? Did you know how hard it would be to find work if you are not legal ?
Author Mimic Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 Well, no. But there is a twist to the story... I came with my parents and we did all we had to do but the lawyer was a big idiot and didn't do anything. They have left now and I am here alone now, and the laws became stricter... But let's go back to the subject, is the fact that she will ask her cousin just a help offering and if in a situation like this, are girls more relaxed that the guys doesn't have a job?

If, given your situation, this girl is hung up about you not having a job, then she is not worth dating in the first place. Her offering to get legal advice for you could have just been a flip remark, she may not actually follow through. In any case, you hardly know her, you should not want to get her involved in your permit problems.
