longlegzs80 Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 Okay, have to admit. I have the worst monotone voice ever. Been told by 2 people that I sound like Eor on Whinny the Pooh. Okay, so this is the deal. How do you change it? Sure it sounds good when your talking dirty but how often do I do that. So, please help me out. I don't know if I have this monotone voice because I am always down, negative mood or depressed. Who knows. If anyone has some helpful advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

PurpleAngel Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 longlegzs80, am always down, negative mood or depressed I must ask, WHY are you always down, and depressed??? ~PurpleAngel~
Author longlegzs80 Posted July 31, 2003 Author Posted July 31, 2003 Well Purple Angel, there are plenty of reasons why I am the way I am with being depressed all the time and whatnot. (1). I have not seen my father in 18 years. (2). Half brothers started showing interest in me my spring term my senior year, and they are 11 and 12 and their mother is pushing it. After all these years, no one bothered. But now, they don't call me at all anymore. Sure there are reasons. (3). I am all alone. I think alot about my family. Not just my mom but my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Everyone from my mothers side of the family. And no one is close. I figure after my grandmother and mother pass away, then I will have no one. Too, I know my grandmother and mother love me, but I want to be loved by others. (4). STrange things at college have happened too me. (5). Worried about career. Getting into it scares me. I feel like I am not creative enough and don't have the ambition for anything. (6). I have always felt like this, but I feel like I am not good enough. This is with everything. I always feel like if I do push myself I am still going to be that losser. And I will never be satisfied or happy with myself. So, that is it. Nothing major, but things that have had an impact on my life.
HokeyReligions Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 The best way I know to change the inflection of your voice is with the emotion behind it. Smile when you talk. Smile when you answer the phone. Think of something funny or joyful right before you speak. Be aware of your body language - smile with your whole body - keep your chin up and look people in the eye, keep your shoulders back and stand/sit straight. If you don't know what to do with your hands - use gestures or simply clasp them in front or in back of you as you talk. Don't think about the sound that comes out of your mouth - your voice comes from inside of you and is constructed of your thoughts, moods, body posture, etc., not your vocal chords.
jenny Posted July 31, 2003 Posted July 31, 2003 wow. and all this time i thought is was gutteral moans, needful whimpering, heavy breathing and other non-emotional but still passionate expressiveness that worked well in bed. do you mean an alto or bass voice, or do you really mean monotone? this is so fascinating, i've never tried monotone.
turtle Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Drink a cup of coffee in the morning or have some pop at lunch. The sugar and caffeen might perk you up enough to elevate your mood, which might lead to a more upbeat voice. I don't know....just a thought Everybody has trouble in their lives. Some people have it worse than others. I was told when my mother died that "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger." So, don't think so much about the things you don't like about your life or what went wrong. I know it's hard, but try to focus on the good things and be thankful for what you have. A positive attitude will go a long way....and it might get rid of that monotone voice. HokeyReligions had some excellent advice - smile more - trust me, it works!
moimeme Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 There are professional voice coaches who can help you. You may be able to find books in a library on speech and vocal training.
Bill Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 Ah, don't worry. My voice is so deep that sometimes it isn't modulated and transmitted using certain communication systems. Most of it is centered lower than 300Hz.
Author longlegzs80 Posted August 2, 2003 Author Posted August 2, 2003 My voice is not like a man's voice. Boy would that be freaky. But there is no pitch to it. It always seems to be at a very low level, but not deep. So, whatever. Thanks to all that replied.
