Hi People :)

Can anyone advise me? Since we broke up about 2 months ago I have found it very hard to eat?

I would be fine if cigarettes had any vitamins in them because I have been on 40 a day :o ... my poor lungs ... I have thought that if I can get through this I can give up smoking :)

Thing is I can't bring myself to eat anything, I am drinking a bit of milk with slimfast in, just to get the vitamins but I havn't really eaten? I think I might be a bit anorexic in this situation, at least its something I have control over

I am getting a bit worried now though, I hav't been able to chew for a week and I was feeling a bit faint and flaky yesterday when I was working hard...

Any advice for getting my appetite back?

if you cant eat, make sure you drink something really fattening... like ensure or something! one of those meal drinks that you give to older people who wont eat... trust me, the same thing is going on with me, and only after about 2 months am i starting to get my appetite back. i lost about 20 pounds! it was pretty crazy... ( but only a little, because i still only eat 1 meal a day --if i'm lucky i'll eat 2-- but thinking about eating makes me feel nothing!)

also, doing new things, and helping your mental state of mind get better help to improve appetite.

My appetite was pretty small for the 1st week..........still isnt' back to full.

I did start working out more, which brought back the appetite - so maybe try that - not eating well will result in being fatigued, headaches etc.

With smoking, from what I know, although it can relax you, it actually can cause you to sleep less at night.

Yes, probably. If you smoke before bed, it can alter your brain chemicals, keeps you from a sound sleep - also gets your pulse racing.

I really think it is really important for you to eat and get the proper nutrition! I don't think there is any reason so neglect your health... especially that you are aware of it! Even if you don't have much of an appetite (I know I don't since the break up) but you should have scheduled meals and eat them as planned...hungry or not. And not being able to chew?? Is that a physical thing? If so you need to see a doctor immediately, I don't think anorexia is something you should take so lightly. Sorry for your losses, you don't deserve to be hurt by anyone, but hurting yourself is the worst thing you can do in this situation.

Yeah, after a while of NC, you will get back to normal.

I was smoking 2 packs a day when the **** was going down, and I don't even smoke.

I'm down to just a couple cigarettes a day now.

Same thing with eating, but that came a lot quicker.

After breaking up I've taken up smoking again which totally sucks. It's an embarrassing habit and my fear of dying of cancer alone makes it even worse.

But.....after a recent breakup, going outside to have a smoke really lets me reflect on things and clear my head. It's something to do while I'm pacing around the house, looking for employment.

Make a sandwich or two then set an alarm for every two hours. Eat a 1/4 to half of the sandwich each time no matter what. Increase the portions to normal over a period of a few days and span the time out slowly until you get back to regular meal times. Drink juice in between meals. This will work.

i used to eat with him.. cook for him so everytime i was eating i was alone so got upset.. for me it was my children who made me eat.. they said they wasnt eating til i did.. bless them.

i started eating things i liked that he didnt:(

small things like fruit.. cereal.. toast.

now im ok.. i actual feel much better and have lost over a stone too

Pot is a slippery slope - it relaxes you, but then it can be a crutch to being relaxed and people become dependant on it

I enjoy a smoke when I am getting something done like decorating or menial tasks in the garden. I can get a bit creative and just enjoy getting the job done but if I have nothing to do I get so intense in my head that I can see why it causes psychosis in less strong people.

Yes juice helps a lot too! When I couldn't eat at first I drank a lot of apple juice straight from the jug.

When I was on the "break-up diet" I knew I had to force myself to get some nutrients so I drank lots of vegetable juice, had yogurt in the morning with some bran mixed in. I couldn't touch much else, not even my beloved cheese and crackers. I found rice was easy to get down as well. You just have to do it, like breathing. Funny how heartbreak messes up your appetite though.

I started smoking a lot more too, from about 8 a day to a pack, easy. I have managed to get it back down because I am keeping busy. My work schedule gave me too much time to sit outside and smoke just waiting for her to come home. I drank a LOT too. Not to the point where it messed anything up, but more than usual. I found that I am still good for about 2 drinks a day now even though I had never drank daily in the past.

I took up exercising regularly and that forced me to eat more as I was losing weight too fast. You might find that it jump starts your body again to go for a run or brisk walk each morning, or join a gym and do some weights.

Try stocking up on your favorite foods, and variations of it that require little preparation. Make smaller portions and just try to get back to normal.
