I support people who enjoy performing sex for an audience and freely choose to do so. I don't support people who patronize them by saying they are getting traumatized. You have no right to judge people who are exercising informed consent, just because a parade of morons and losers cannot do the same and thus end up being exploited by the seamier side of the industry. You also have no right to label people as "predators" for enjoying the former.

Even you admit there's a parade of people who get exploited. So why are you supporting an industry that exploits for no good reason beyond allowing people to whack off?

I agree with TotalM... not all porn stars are abused, addicted, etc..

I would think that the 'losers' are the addicts that end up in the porn scene to pay for their addictions... or those who start in the porn and end up drug addicts because they don't like their jobs, blablabla... so instead of leaving it... they stay and later play the victims... these are the 'losers'...

They had the choice and they chose that lifestyle.. it was their choice..

But why does the porn industry get singled out for being an avenue for these supposed "bad choices"? Why not the lumberjack or offshore fishing industries, where considerably more people die than in porn? It seems like it's ok to take a much higher risk of death if you're a young guy going into those fields, but god forbid a woman take the risk of having a few regrets later in life by spending some of her twenties getting *paid* to have sex (something many men would love to get paid to do).

Because when you go into the porn industry you end up selling a little part of your soul? The women who choose to do porn, in most cases, do it because of deep seeded issues. Most normal healthy women do not desire to be used as a blow up doll in a porn movie by different men. The nature of women and men and such... The reason why women in porn get paid more is because you HAVE to pay a woman more to get them to do porn. We all know men would jump at the chance to have an indiscriminate amount of sex with an indiscriminate amount of partners. Although I read that alot of men in porn use viagra to up their own prowness.

A lumberjack might become one to survive, but he isn't a lumberjack because he has deep issues with himself and with members of the opposite sex. He is taking a risk but we all take risks everyday. There is a huge difference in comparing a blue collar work industry and an industry that about sex...men, women...and the female/male dynamics. It puts a different spin on it. A lumberjack isn't being degraded.

It seems like most criticism of the "exploitative" nature of the porn industry is nothing to do with exploitation (otherwise other industries would get the most criticism) and everything to do with judgmental moralizing and sexual prudery.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I kid though. You are only kidding yourself if you don't find porn exploitative for men and women alike.

Some pornographers are exploitative SOBs, some are not. It's unfair to judge the latter based on the actions of the former. I support the latter because they make a good product that gives people pleasure and allows them to explore their sexuality freely, something which is otherwise very difficult to do in uptight mainstream society.

If dumb people make dumb choices and get exploited - well, plus ca change, that happens in all kinds of industries and relationships. Shall we ban marriage or saving because dumb people make mistakes and screw up their lives with those things too?

You only "sell your soul" if you find porn distasteful. If you don't have hangups about sex and exhibiting yourself, it's not soul-destroying at all, in fact it can be very satisfying. Besides, working in an office cubicle is pretty soul-destroying too if you don't like the work. Again, why pick on porn?

I think it's pretty patronising to assume a grown adult is being exploited, just because you would feel that way if you did the same work. If they seem to be making a free, unpressured choice, and appear to enjoy it, then why not let them? No one is forcing you to watch it or comment on it, after all - you are the only one trying to impose your choices on others.
