FloraPost Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Someone, I think it was sunshinegirl, posted about her ex's personality type and how it came out. I just got curious. Anybody else know their type and their ex'es? I'm an ENFJ and my STBXH is INTJ. I'm going to research a bit to see what I can glean from that and how it applies to coping with this whole mess I'm in... Something else to use as a procrastination and distract me from the manure...
LikeCharlotte Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I'll bite. I am ESTJ. He is ISFJ, I think. Does that mean anything?
FauxVowel Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Okay, I don't know what all these abbreviations are for, except STBXH. So I'll just say that I am crazy, and so is she.
2sunny Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 there are tests that you take and the results correspond with these qualities: Introverted (I) or Extroverted (E), Sensing (S) or Intuitive (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).
Nevermind Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 INFJ, that's me. The ex never took a test, so...who knows. I would think he is ESTJ.

Based on this I think I would be something like a ISNTP. I can't choose between Sensing & Intuitive.
Nevermind Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Charlotte, okay. So that leaves 15 types for him to be in.
sunshinegirl Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 My ex is INTP, a type that is renowned for lacking emotional expressiveness and having an inability to empathize with or attend to others' feelings. He is so extremely cut off from his own feelings and, as a result, others, that he veers toward schizoid tendencies. I would have thought this would make me feel better (it's really not me!) but somehow it makes me really sad and even more depressed. I'm still working out why. I am INxx (I waver on the last two).
Nevermind Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Sunshinegirl: did he take the test? When? What did you think when you heard his result?
sunshinegirl Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 He didn't take it with me...I think he had some time ago. Early on in our dating life I read up in INTP and it raised a few concerns for me, but then I figured I would just adapt and learn how to 'be' with someone so inexpressive. To wit, I am an independent person anyway and don't need a lot of emotional handholding...so I was never clingy or needy - I let him have his space and I rarely made emotional demands. I accepted that he's a crappy gift giver, I accepted that he doesn't empathize with others (!), I accepted that he processes everything rationally. Or I thought I accepted it even though at some level it bothered me that he was so un-engaged with me and others.
Trialbyfire Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 The MB tests aren't cast in stone for life. You can change types reliant on what skills you're currently using. For example, if you're currently in management your test results could be different from your pre-promotion results.

I used to test very reliably as INTJ but in more recent years I've tested with F and/or P. And I have a well developed E side even though naturally I am still an I. My ex, however, I think may be cast in stone for life as INTP/emotionally stunted/schizoid and besides all that, a liar and a cheater.

People have multiple skills which are brought to the forefront, when in consistent use. As for your ex, no doubt he's a liar and a cheater!
