pentacle Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hello I want to talk about kisses. To me, in the UK, there seems to be new kissing behaviours going on and I wonder if it's happening on a wide scale. I've been finding that it's getting more common over the last 5 years for people and more noticeably men who are not lovers to kiss me on the lips in greeting or goodbye - nothing untoward, just on the lips which is odd, really to me being of a certain generation, but not utterly offensive. Various people, neices, couple of female friends, and various types of men, couple of brothers in law, neice's partner, friend, couple of husband's uncles. So I'm curious, is it normal behaviours I just didn't know about or is it a societal change? Any views or experiences?
xpaperxcutx Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Well next time their lips starts moving towards you, you turn your cheeks so all they kiss is your cheeks. Better safe than sorry I guess lol
Pedigree Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 From my experience, it doesn't get that far. It's all hugs and if there's a non-significant other doing the kissing it's usually the girl that does it.
Author pentacle Posted June 22, 2008 Author Posted June 22, 2008 Maybe you have especially irresistible lips. hahaha - wonder what truly irresistable lips would look like though. So conclusion is it doesn't seem to be cultural, it seems to be me. Maybe I don't know the rules properly and should move or something. Hmm something to think about and practice! Thanks guys.
Storyrider Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 hahaha - wonder what truly irresistable lips would look like though. Well, look no further... Lol. Just kidding. Sort of.
Karyyk Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Granted, I'm in the southern US, but there's really nothing that goes that far here (as far as I knew, that was only a Russian custom). Hugs are about as far as it goes, maybe a kiss on the side of the face. My mother is Spanish, and kisses on the side of the face seem a lot more common there, but again, nothing directly on the lips.
Author pentacle Posted June 25, 2008 Author Posted June 25, 2008 And I'm in UK, so we're not exactly famous for being demonstrative:)
in_absentia Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I've noticed that too here in the UK, though the past few years it seems to be going more towards kissing on the cheek, especially in formal situations and down south more rather than up north. I hate it, can't stand getting that close to people I barely know and it feels so fake and shallow, but sometimes I'll just let them kiss me on the cheek as a token so as to not make a show lol. As for the lips thing, I'd freak and say wow don't you think that's a little inappropriate? Away from other people, obviously. *shudders*
