Been working with the doc on this one. Taking painful thoughts or images and replacing them with calming ones. An image of me relaxing at the beach house for example...

Anyway, I got another image, or rather a feeling I'm working with. If you're still with me, here's how it goes:

Your head has got the day off. Have you ever been at work when it's your day off? You know what work is. You know what it means when your there working. The responsibilities, the nagging boss etc. When you're at work and it's your day off, you have a whole different frame of mind. You can goof off, come and go as you please.. I mean after all it's your day off. It's very liberating!

All these thoughts that creep in each day and add stress to your life, well that's like your boss, nagging.. or the work piling up. Don't sweat it. It's your day off! You might be at work, but you can leave any time. You're just visiting. You can do some task if you want at your own pace, or you can goof off in the lunchroom reading a magazine for an hour. You don't even have your work clothes on! Maybe just jeans and a t-shirt or something. Totally laid back. Totally casual.

It's such a unique feeling of freedom and lack of responsibility. The environment is the same, but the attitude is different. More relaxed; confident even!

So when your thoughts of the ex roll in, and the anxiety starts to go up, remember, you may be at "work", but it's your day off! You can leave it all behind any time you want.

It's like a state of mind. Try to shift to it whenever you get overwhelmed.

I believe this is helping me.. I hope maybe it could help someone else. The doc was surprised when I came up with all of this off the top of my head. Perhaps some real progress is being made!

Buy some books on NLP!

Works wonders - reframing is a good way to give up bad habits such as smoking... i spose could work with a person!

Very interesting. I have fleeting moments when I really feel that most of my worries are really a cloak I choose to wear, when I could just as well take it off, fold it up and put it away, so to speak.

That sounds obvious, perhaps, but when I really feel it somehow it freaks me out, and when I try to hold on to the realisation, it disappears.

I like the idea of NLP but I'm not sure swish patterns and the like are for me - does it really work? Your day-off image appeals because I know that feeling. I'm going to nick that tool, if you don't mind.

The swish thing worked for me for smoking... for a while.

It makes sense why it would work.
