Due to your overly analytical and regimented nature that takes the wind out of anyone's sails, basically you don't know how to have fun, you must be a Virgo! :lmao:

Haha I was just thinking that.

I love astrology and I think it totally works to explain compatibility. I'm a Virgo and I'm very attracted to scorpio, taurus and sagittarius. Most of my friends are pisces, virgo, aries or taurus. I find scorpio people very magnetic and smart .

There's a really cool website about astrology called www.astro.com. They give you free interpretations of your birthchart. If you like astrology, you should check it out.

i am a gemini and my man is a gemini.

i am committed. he is committed too. but i don't like the whole commitment and long-term thing. scares the **** out of me. take it as it goes, yeah!

and we must have ALOT of personal time to expound our interests (basically do our own stuff). we are independent and we do not NEED each other.

and NOBODY should get emotional for extended period of time.

and nobody should be too sensitive. can't really deal with it.

we love learning. and we are highly motivated. and positive.

geminis are nice people and we are committed, i suppose, in our own special ways. :)

i cannot deal with the sensitivity of cancerians (is that what you call them?)

don't really like capricorns.

thinks aquarions are cool! best match for a gem, i reckon. not so sure. maybe i should do a check on astro.com.

if this astrology thing is true, then i don't think i will work out with my bf.:p

I find the Zodiac aspects to be very interesting, and generally accurrate (although you do meet the odd person here and there that don't match up well with their Sun, so that usually means their moon is something very different).

I'm a Taurus with a Cancer moon, which is frankly a confusing combination that makes for a very emotional individual. My rising is in Capricorn though, so no matter how messed up I might feel internally, I can usually put on a tough demeanor that only people who are close to me can see through.

I tend not to go for other earth signs, especially not Virgos. I know they're supposed to be a good match for Taurus, but they're far to bossy and domineering for my taste, and generally, they don't seem to like sex very much (not speaking from any personal experience there either). So I don't insult anyone specifically, this is kind of how I break it down as far as signs that I'm likely to date/avoid. This isn't set in stone (particularly depending on the Moon), but it seems to be fairly spot-on.

Prefer dating: Cancer, Pisces

Would date: Scorpio, Libra, Taurus

Would have qualms: Capricorn, Leo, Aries, Aquarius

Avoid like the plauge: Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo

Whether you want to write it all off or not, the fact is that it's been amazingly spot-on with the people I know (and people can tell I'm a Taurean from a mile away apparently). I used to take it all with a grain of salt until my ex got me interested in it, and I tried resisting for a long, long time. I couldn't ignore it.

I'm not certain you can take this stuff seriously. When I look at the description of the signs, I'm more of a Sagittarius, than a Cap.

Hey Karryk that is interesting stuff. I don't have much of a clue about any of this, how do you determine what your moon is? What is the deal with "earth symbols"? Sorry for the noobishness.

I can understand reading up on zodiac signs and horoscopes for entertainment, however it worries me to see people making major life decisions based on them.

We control our lives and our destiny, not the stars; and I wouldn't have it any other way folks.

Well, all you really need to know to find your moon is your place of birth (for rising you would need the exact time though). Basically the moon sign governs the emotions, so how you feel and react to things will be largely based on that.

The "Earth Signs" are Taurus, Capricorn and Virgo. Earth signs are traditionally associated with stability, solidarity, and practicality. I find Taurus to be emotional in its own right, but having a Cancer moon, I find Capricorn and Virgo (in particularly Virgo) to be a bit stodgy and unemotional. I like them well enough as friends (Caps in particular, who do have an emotional side, but seem to be unable to express it readily), but I wouldn't want to be involved with them in a romantic relationship.

I know a lot of people are going to read this and say it's just a lot of hooey and wonder how an otherwise intelligent person could buy into such a superstitious way of thinking. All I can say in response to that is that my personal observation and experiences have agreed with a great deal of what astrology says are the characteristics and manners of the particular signs. While I'm not going to go with it to predict my future or anything, as far as the traits go, again, it's spot on IMHO.

I like to read about astrology, but it's really just a broad generalization about people. That being said, I am a pretty textbook Taurus: loyal, grounded, committed. And the majority of my friends have been Cancers, Pisces and Virgos. And the majority of the men I have dated or been attracted to have been Pisces: my college boyfriend, the bad boyfriend, the musician I liked, and the most recent guy I dated are all fishes.

i should really be dating another Earth sign!

We're both Taureans?? :)

Capricorn is one of our best matches. So is Cancer and Virgo.[/quote

Oh c'mon you guys, you'll have more fun with scorpios.. cancer may be good but Virgo? Forget it..

Got the last one right, but you guys are way too complex for Scorpios liking, unfortunately.

I think Saggitarians could be described as nice people, however they tend to be blunt and very pompous, big ego and all that. Too much for this sensitive scorpio queen. I would put Saggs in the same basket as Geminis really; no-go area.

too many people putting geminis into the no-go/avoid-like-a-plague area

is there a horoscope site that i'm not visiting?

Gee, thanks.

I relate to some but not all of the traditional descriptions of Sagittarians - I'm not "flighty", for example, but I do love adventure. I absolutely commit wholeheartedly to my relationships but have a deep thirst for knowledge, learning...I can get bored without that kind of stimulation. I can't say I recall where "blunt, pompous, and big ego" have been used to describe Sags, but I'm pretty sure they don't describe me.

One of my exes was a Taurus. Disaster of a relationship. Extremely anal retentive. And ultimately, gay.

My current ex is a Capricorn. Extremely stoic to the point of not having feelings. Interested/concerned in a funny way with status. He cheated on me.

Apparently both of these signs are bad matches for me, yes?

So who am I supposed to be with instead? Also dated a Libra and he flaked out after 6 months.

I think Scorpios don't get along with Sagittarians because Scorpios tend to want to dominate and control, compartmentalizing everything and everyone. Sagittarians value their freedom and lack of structure.

From your descprition above, I take it that Sags may have hard time finding compatible companions, mmh? So everyone else around you guys is bad, except for yourselves, maybe? Sounds like my first BF..:)

Any more generalizations or leaps in logic you can cram in there?

I've seen at least two posts on here from Caps and Tauruses that they should stay away from Sags at all cost. I'm on the other end of that, so apparently I should have stayed away from them at all cost too?

I gave 1-sentence summaries of two individuals who happened to be total douchebags to me. Whether that's related to their signs, I have no idea.

So if a smokin hot Saggitarius asks you out you decline based on astrology conflicts?

hmmm....

You may be right, but what did you achieve?

Lowered pressure gauge to nominal.

(Hey, I did apologize beforehand =) AND spaced the post so that anyone who didn't like it wouldn't read it!)

When were you born?

I shouldn't have to say, if I told, then we know my sign by definition =)

I'm usually skeptical when it comes to these things but it's hard to be when you read a description of characteristics and find yourself go "Yep, that's me".

It's because they're phrased in sugary language designed to make _anybody_ go "yep, that's me". Watch the youtube video, randi gave 30 people the SAME birth chart and they all went "yep, that's me".

For a smart guy, that joke went right over your head lol

You know what's ironic? the fact that you felt compelled to point out how beneath some of us are in intelligence, for entertaining Astrology as a means of diversion.

I thought I was more scolding you guys, since you are adults. The thing is conversations about signs read to me exactly like:

Never date a virgo, they are pompous, egotistical and brash.

Never date an irishman, they are pompous, egotistical and brash (and are all drunks)

Never date a Hatian, they are pompous, egotistical and brash (and could turn you into a zombie)

Never date a Catholic, they are pompous, egotistical and brash (and not to be trusted around children)

Never date a Muslim, they are pompous, egotistical and brash (and could explode at any moment!)

You see why this is distasteful to me? Even in jest, there is an undercurrent of prejudice running through all of it, all I did was point it out. But I did apologize. If I saw a peaceful gathering of nice folks dressed in sheets and pointy hats burning crosses on the lawn, I would probably have to politely disagree as well, but as long as they're being peaceful, sure, they're just having fun.

... and you did this in an attempt to prove your own superiority in grey matter. but here's the big twist, if we are really lower in standards of intelligence what does that say about you that you feel so moved to "one up" us of all people, we the lowest forms of intelligence with all these facts you summoned for this argument?

Not to one up you, but if I planted the seed of doubt in one credulous person's heart here, then it was worth it =) I used to be just like some people here. Credulous to a fault, I believed in ghosts, spirits, psychic powers, astrology and god(s). But I decided to treat this area of my life with the same intellectual rigor as all other areas.

hmmmm...I think it would have looked better on you to shake your head and move along, but that's just me, in my own "stupidity" and all...that's exactly what I would have done. nothing says "this is so NOT beneath me" than trying to engage in a battle if the wits in a situation with people you find out of your intellectual scope.

Yeah, but just because a person is smart doesn't mean they have great judgement. =) It was late, and I was bored (I don't own a TV) and itching for a good argument.

PS we're just having fun, lighten up you are taking this thread way too seriously man.

Alright, fine, since I don't do astrology, can I just use other stereotypes / whole cloth fabrications? Like can I say don't date people from kansas because they're pretty dumb and teach scientology in the schools! (and they are all missing teeth where you can see it)=p

Due to your overly analytical and regimented nature that takes the wind out of anyone's sails, basically you don't know how to have fun, you must be a Virgo! :lmao:

Hehe, wrong, but your analysis is right. I mean, it's the same as complaining when a guy starts telling blond / sexist jokes.

It's just that I don't like stereotypes.

Every person is a unique individual who should be judged as such and if fans of astrology don't think so, then they better damn well know what universal force is causing distant cosmic objects to affect daily events for mammals on a tiny, meaningless world on the far edge of the outer rim of one spiral arm of the milky way.

On a completely unrelated note, watch "All the king's men" Good movie, I saw it last night.

Rest assured, everything I post is with tongue planted firmly in cheek =)

That being said, some people are so crazy it has become impossible to tell when they are being serious or not. I'm going to go running now, 'cuz if I keep replying so often, I'm gonna jack the thread and I don't wanna do that, let the amateur (!) astrologers have their fun =p

If I was pushed to guess, I guess The Blur's birthday to be close to July 29th making him a Leo.

But seriously, he is making a good point. Astrology and the Zodiac is a fun parlor topic arranged in a way that makes it easily applicable, but consulting charts, planet alignment, and birthdays to make big decisions would be a risky and close minded way to be. Like a short cut to thinking; why bother spending time getting to know anyone as an individual when you can just open up the big ole birthday book and read allllll about them. Just like all the talk about Virgos being cold killjoys and unable to have fun. My Virgo man isn't at all like that so the astrology stuff can't be counted on 100% just like every thing else. But its been a fun thread any way.

Still Blur.......you did come in a thread about a topic you find ridiculous.

Posted

blur, this is a fun thread, although there is some seriousness from a couple of members.

This thread is no different than some of the:

"She smiled at me today, do you think she likes me enough to go out with me? I'm not planning to ask her out or anything. Just wondering, in case she asks me out."

The zodiac and horoscope selection would probably be more accurate than advice received from the above request for help...
