Kinna stupid and funny question at the same time but hopefully I will get some insight on this that has been bothering me for a while.

reason: Originally Born in Bulgaria - Eastern Europe lived there for 13 years and I came to US 7 years Ago. I have not been able to find a girlfriend ( I am friends with a lot of girls) I am currently 20 and let me just say it sucks to be dateless. When I talk to women the first thing they notice is my accent and I think they get discouraged or disappointed.

I just want to state for the record that my accent does not in any way portray stupidity - I don't believe I am stupid, since the best activity of the day that I get to do is read.

But again the question: Are women disappointed or do they consider accents as a plus when meeting a guy?

I love a nice accent! My second significant other was born and raised in the Ukraine and I just loved it!

I think it depends on the accent.

eg. Probably not a lot of american women swoon at the sound of a strong indian. ;)

i love British and French, and Italian accents. I would never, never discriminate based on the way a guy sounds though. I don't have an accent, but have a pretty significant speech impairment (gee, I wonder why I like the internet!) and people have made the very wrong assumption that I'm cognitively impaired as well. So I would never do that to someeone else.

Not really I prefere my own accent(American).

Although I like Italian skin tone.

I think accents attract certain types of people, and repel others. I have a slight French accent in english, while living in Canada, and I know here it can turn some people off. I don't care, for the people who actually find it attractive are usually more interesting anyways.

I have a deep Southern accent. Say "Ya'll and ain't" the works.

Traveled all over the world, lived all over the world. Its all relative to where your from and where your at the time.

While in Dade County, Fla, for Hurricane Andrew relief, a Red Cross worker from NYNY, was enthralled with my accent and wondered "Where are you from and what language are you speaking?"

"Frankly my Dear! I don't give a damn!"

My family on my mom's side hails from Mississippi. A few years ago my mom, dad and I went back for a family reunion. My dad went to a store, and the clerk said he had a "thick accent" (we are from Califonia!) and thought when he said "film" that it was "phone". She handed him a phone to call someone, lol. Very, very funny.

I don't have an accent.

You do have an accent, we all do! Some are more prominent than others.

I have a somewhat heavy accent, however the guys I have dated here seemed to like it, if anything, they said it turns them on :). So I'm okay with accent, but maybe because I have one, my fav is British accent.

There is no such thing as a British Accent, as there are many accents to be found in Britain. Each with their own tone, pitch and lingo. I like the London accent or the Manchester accent.

I see it is relative to you position and all but I have seen most of the negative where people are kind of turned off by my accent. I cannot change it or anything - it just comes out that way.

The point is if people look behind the accent would be way way better...

It takes a British to know that far. For the rest of us non-British, it's simply a British accent!

Well I don't agree with that completely I think most non brits just want to ignore all other base accents and stick to the posh ones they hear in movies so theyre not confused which is fair enough I don't want to chiefly study all American regional dialects and then community and street ones.

I'm British BUT being british means you include England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and a few little islands around the UK. I think it's generally understood a "British Accent" when used by non Brits is understood to be RP(Received Pronunciation) English or near enough RP English.

Any Unusual unknown regional dialect not usually seen on tv/movies is ignored a typical birmingham accent (brummy) might not be accept as a sterotypical British accent even though it is I had a friend that went abroad and they did not believe he was from England because of his accent. Scottish/Welsh etc accents usually default to their respective countries rather then British but then their own regional dialects confuse others heh.

Enough about that though and back to the OP's question. As a Brit Living in Canada and having travelled to other countries also I would say that to some women yes your accent (especially if not native and foreign) can be an attractive feature to some women and also a turn off.

I'm British and have an RP English Accent although I'm not an englishman (I wont go into details) but everytime I would open my mouth I would immediately get added attention especially from women, it makes you instantly exotic to some women if it appeals to them. Also in my case due to stereotypes in movies I'm presumed to me smarter and richer in some cases and treated better had I not had my accent.

However as I said it can also be a turn off, If you have a broken english accent from whatever country you hail from many people have negative thoughts to this you are treated as more stupid and slow when the majority of the time this is not the case I mean hell you know 2 languages at least while the person judging probably doesnt.

This can also be sexy to some also though especially as they see you trying your best to use more careful beautiful words of the english language then your native partners hence why so many women who go abroad are seduced off their feet by the foreign men speaking broken english but know all the right sexy words to whisper in your ear.

Media plays a big part as I mentioned before, think about for example the last time you saw a character in a movie with a russian speaking in the typical broken english accent almost always this male or female is a bad guy you conform that when you hear that accent it's from someone not to be trusted or you may get cold war memories.

We all just need to break this thinking if possible and give the person a chance.

I hope this all made sense and OP I hope you find a good girl to be at your side one day and I hope she's an extremely horny one for all the girls that have misjudged you (I presume)

The last guy I dated lived in Poland until he was 18, so he had an accent. I thought it was one of his sexiest features!

I've got a little bit of a Yat accent (grew up near New Orleans), though it's not too strong. People here in the south tell me I sound like I'm from up north, usually New Jersey or New York, lol. Any women find Jersey accents sexy?
