it's actually NOT a social skill - it's a Literacy skill. 24% of the pop. has poor literacy skills - that includes speaking and listening!! for people to be judgemental about this is a disgrace! he is doing his best, so lay off for goodness sake!! add into the literacy probs the phobia that comes with using phones..it is in no way disrespectful!

You are right that verbal communication is a literacy skill.

You are wrong that it is NOT a social skill. Look it up on Wikipedia.

With everyone texting and emailing we starting losing verbal communication skills a long time ago and it's getting worse. Who cares about whether it's literacy or not... Look at the facts:

1. Without communication skills you will never be a good parent.

2. Without communication skills you will never be truely intimate with a significant other.

3. Without communication skills you will never be successful at work.

4. Without communication skills you will never be the person barely making ends meet and blaming the world and people for not understanding you.

I'm sure we can keep listing more reasons but the bottom fact is after the age of 18 YOU are responsible for your life. That means being able to communicate as well as being able to surround yourself with those that can as well. Not everyone has the drive to want to better themselves so it's important to stay away and find like minded people.

I totally agree! She's not happy about his communication methodology but hasn't communicated this to him. Are they a match made in Heaven or what?

Sorry OP, couldn't resist. You'd better communicate your needs 'cause you can't hold him responsible while doing the same.
