I go back this Saturday to get my very large tattoo finished. So far about three hours have been gone (eight weeks ago) and I only have about an hour to an hour and a half left to go (shading only).

First the first part, it did not really hurt for the first two hours or so, but then it just got very, very, very painful (as tattoos are). I am a little nervous about Saturday (not only the tattoo, but the healing which is also in it's own way aweful).

My artists said he takes Tylenol PM before getting a large amount of work done. I am thinking of trying this. Any suggestions?

P.S. I love my tattoo very much so yeah, in the end this is all worth it and yes I know it supposed to hurt.

Thanks!!

Personally I find shading to hurt the least because the needles don't go that deep into the skin.

I'm not sure about the tylenol advice, I've never heard of it. Though what I do know is that it's always good to have a meal and drink enough fluids before you get tattooed. Sometimes you may wind up bleeding, and tattooing is also stressful mentally and physically.

When I had my tattoo finished on the second session which was 3 hours, I could not wait for it to end...the pain was almost traumatizing. But then my tattooist was coloring in areas which would overlap twice (tender parts).

I would google the tylenol thing and see what others have to say.

DEFINITELY do not take ANY painkillers in advance. They will thin the blood and cause you to bleed more.

My artist uses bactine as a wiping liquid, and that has a little numbing effect, which helps a bit.

Beyond that, my last piece took two hours, and as soon as I got home, I took a nice fatty vicodan. lol. The first hour was tolerable, but the second I thought I would die and almost passed out from the pain.

Sure you don't want to break it up?

Hi All!

Monkey luckily I only have an hour or so left of just shading. My first session, the shading was the worse, but that was because I had already been there for over an hour and he was going over the same areas to add tones (yeah, I could not wait for it to be over).

Jilly Bean, Same for me. The first hour or so was not that bad I had normal breathing, I was calm and relaxed and then the fitigue set in and I just wanted it to be over.

After my first session, I went home and we did not have the right soap to clean it which made me worry and I had a panic attack and fainted (haha). I took a Xanex and went to sleep.

If I do use the Tylenol PM, my artists said it makes him fall asleep, but I wonder if that would make me focus on it more?
