Lonelystar Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I recently posted a thread talking about how a Snow Patrol song made me cry. It really made me sad, but then I thought why not listen to a song that will make me feel better. I have been listening to The Strokes because their songs evoke no emotion out of me, but relaxes me. Another song that I like is Surivior by Destiney's Child. It is not in my realm of musical choice, but beyonce is hot and the song has a good message. It has been over a week since my "ex"/ "whatever-he is to me" has talked to me. It sure does suck, but I figure the worst thing that could happen is that I'll be alone forever. There is always the rabbit and Sex in the City so I'll be fine in my old age:). Plus I could always scare little children, and hit people with my cane once I get older. The crazy old lady would suite me just fine hah. I hope everyone is feeling better, if not just try to get by it one day at a time. Crying helps also, because it reduces stress.
ioncebelieved Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Yeah and that song did me in too!!! I would have otherwise thought that song was stupid, but since I am hurting, I understood the song and liked it a lot! The slide show to that song was even sad!! I broke contact with as well and emailed it to my heart breaker. I am not blaming you for my breaking NC.... I can screw that up pretty well all on my own.
Francesco Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Stay away from Snow Patrol, Damien Rice, Ryan Adams, etc...All music that focuses on heartache and heartbreak will screw with any mental progress you are making. "You Could Be Happy" was quickly deleted from my ipod as soon as I became single. It was just too real of a song for me at the point of my breakup and listening to stuff like that only forces you to think about things that aren't helping you move on. If you want to be the bitter old lady surrounded by cats, keep on listening to the sad stuff. I too thought I would end up the sad old guy who sits in the park and feeds pigeons. The guy everyone wants to avoid because too much eye contact means you will be forced into a 30 minute conversation about what happened 50 years ago. I suggest finding some new bands, new songs. Go angry, listen to Chevelle...go folk and download some Josh Ritter. Rock, Foo Fighters. If you want emotion, but not too much try some Stereophonics, the Frames, Augustana. Or go with the best and get some Kings of Leon. Music plays a huge part in everyone's lives...we allow songs to define whatever situation we are in, so find something that defines you in a positive way. If you have to, download some country...Garth Brooks, George Strait, they sing about heartache but not in a way thats going to make you sad. But what relaxes me and allows me to ignore the outside world is some Miles Davis. You dont have to worry about lyrics to relate to. Just stop listening to Snow Patrol...
Francesco Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Oh yeah...Haha the best possible song for a breakup is big Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around". Beyonce just cant touch that.

Author Lonelystar Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 I was being sarcastic about being an old lady with cats. I'd much rather have dogs. All I was saying is the worst thing is that I'd be without mate. I hope that is not the situation, but if it is I know I have to learn to deal with it. I want to be independent, and be okay with just me. Yes sad songs suck, but it is like an addiction when I am sad. I will def. try and listen to the list of bands you have given me.
Kman21 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Personally I have been listening to Karma from Kamelot often, that songs gives me inspiration for bravery, power and courage. Just what I need at this moment...
Citizen Erased Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Listen to bands like Slipknot, System of a Down, Disturbed, Korn or Rammstein. Nothing to make you cry there. Well, except for Korn. Because you are listening to Korn, which is almost as sad as listening to Limp Bizkit. Or Eminem. Now that would be bad. But certainly wouldn't make you cry over you ex
Author Lonelystar Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 Yes Yes No Korn. I have been listening to Tool and The Strokes . Kman I will def. check out that song. NC is so hard...bleeeh. I wish I could start a heartbreaker clubs. Where a whole bunch of single people could get together and just do single things. Everyone I know is in a relationship.

Author Lonelystar Posted June 12, 2008 Author Posted June 12, 2008 I think I will. It would be a good way for single people to meet other single people to form friendships. Since everyone is going through the same thing, it wouldn't be an understanding environment. I want to have more single friends who understand my pain. Everyone I know it getting married or married already. I'm so happy for them, but it sucks when you're the odd single friend.
