er.. i'm embarrassed to admit this, but i really don't know how to make new friends!

i enjoy the friends i have, but i suppose i feel like im getting a bit old for drinking games; no matter how witty they might be. i want to be loyal but also see if there are a few other ways to spend my weekend if i'm not dating, studying, or making breakfast for those who have crashed at my house. i've never really had to 'court' freinds, but i think i do now...there are a couple of people in my art classes i'd like to remember, but i'm not sure how to do that without seeming creepy. any suggestions anyone?

There's nothing wrong with inviting someone out for a drink after class or over for dinner or out to a club....whatever you fancy. I don't think they would think you were creepy at all. It never hurts to ask. Maybe start off by saying something like "Have you seen the movie _______(fill in the blank)?" And if she/he says no, then say "Well, I was really wanting to go see it, maybe you'd like to come with me" or something along those lines. Or if that person mentions something they have to do after class or whenever, then be like "Oh, me too...why don't we ride together?" That would be a good way to get together outside of class. I mean there are tons of ways to hang out or invite someone to do something without being creepy. Just be creative and don't sweat it.

Good luck!

o -cool - thank you - all very good suggestions! i'm terrible at small talk (my opening line is always "what are you reading?" which works well in university but seems odd outside of it) it seems weird to have to do this - i've always had friends, and then friends of friends, etc, but it's suddenly awkward with a new job and city - i can still see my old ones on the weekend but i just feel like its time for a change and courage.

thanks again, j

p.s. you look incredible in your pic; its awesome to see a truly unique wedding shot - i suggested that cam gaze angle to my cousin for her fall wedding, she loves it, she and her friends are having a strange 'who will have the most aesthetically unified wedding' contest :D
