Ok. Background:

I've known this girl for two years. She's good friends with one of my buddies and we'd often times end up in the same social functions. My best buddy always goes to concerts with her. He used to like her. We also took a lot of grad school classes together. We always enjoy good conversation together, like I do with a lot of friendly acquintences.

She's very fairly religious and does not have the reputation of sleeping around.

I'm moving out of the state in two weeks. We run into each other at a party the other week. I tell her I'm moving. She gives me the "we should hang out before you leave" deal I hear from everyone.

Couple days later she calls. Interesting. Asks me if I want to meet up at a bar the next night. I say "sure" thinking it's going to be a group of people at the bar. I show up and it's just her. We proceed to have drinks for the next few hours. Good times.

The next day she texts me and says she is going to the beach. I was busy and couldn't make it, but told her I would be surfing in her neck of the woods in a couple days if she wanted to meet up - she replied, "I'll hold you to it".

I know this is a tough post to respond to, but my questions is, would a girl just call one guy to hang out on a completely platonic level? Do girls do stuff like that? I mean she knows I'm moving, nothing could ever come of this. She's not the type to sleep around. Is she just trying to establish a friendship before I leave?

I'm going to give her a call tomorrow when I'm in her area and we'll probably meet at the beach. She's a cool gal so I'm interested to see where this goes.

I can fill you in on more details if you need them.

BTW I'm 25...

See this is why I don't really keep girls as friends. Too confusing.

Even if you don't keep women as friends, it'll still be confusing.

I'm sure you've had the hot'n'cold thrown at you before, or experienced the everything-went-well-but-I-just-changed-my-mind thing.

You can't avoid it, it's better to learn how to deal with it.

Depends on the girl. If it were me, it would be because I want to get to know you better because I kinda like you and might want to date you. Maybe she has been interested in you for a while and you never approched her and she's trying to make her move...

But that's only if we've been knowing eachother and if HE as already initiated us hanging out first.

DT - let me expand on this a bit.

From what my guy friends tell me, they believe the possibility always exists for them to screw one of their female friends, and most of them would want to, given the chance. Again, just what my guy friends tell me, other men on here may refute that...

However, as a woman, I can tell you that I have MANY male friends that I have no desire to have sex with.

Does this girl have a romantic interest in you? Perhaps, but considering how forward she is being in arranging plans with you, I have to think she might not be quite so bold were she interested in more than friendship. But, I could be wrong...perhaps her leaving soon has made her feel very devil may care right now...

I have female friends call me to hang out with friends, movies, dinner, and many other events.

Seems natural to me. Seems like you have a platonic female friend.

But I'm moving in two weeks. To another country! This is part of the reason I was confused.

I totally agree with this. If I'm calling a girl to do something then I'm into her. I don't just call to hang out. That's what my buddies are for.

Would you just call one guy to hang out at a bar and not be interested in him? This is what is confusing me.

However, as a woman, I can tell you that I have MANY male friends that I have no desire to have sex with.

I would be willing to bet that the only reason they continue to hang out with you is because they want to get in your pants!

So you think she is just trying to establish a friendship here? I'm a little confused by the last couple sentences. Just to be clear, I'm the one moving.

I prefer the company of males than females, usually, so yes, it could be platonic.
