Hey the people in Cheaters eat and go to the bathroom just like you do, don't you feel you can relate to those people too? Is it not a wakeup call for you as well?

 

Excuse me, plenty of things can wake a person up namely a shared experience through kinship and being able to relate to a situation through direct association. yeah sure I was in an affair just like the people on that show but to say my association to them is as close as your is being that you eat and crap just like they do.

 

I have NOTHING in common with the trash that appears on that show, therefore the show is irrelevant to me.

 

Here's a wakeup call for you, people who live their lives dictated by what happens on sitcom television shows REALLY need a life.

Well you gotta' admit, people who watch too much television are not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Academics, scholars, and advanced human beings do not get to where they do in life by sitting in front of the boob watching Cheaters.

Tomcat if your mm's wife chose to call cheaters and the confrontation was taped for the show YOU would be what you consider the trash on that show. Many times the ow/om's face is blanked out because they do not wish to take part in that. The only one who chooses to air it is the bs either out of desparation to know the truth and can not afford a pi or out of a F*** you attitude towards the cheater and his accomplice.

I agree that too much tv watching is not healthy. However, even the "advanced human beings" often enjoy watching fun, trash tv every once in a while. I have a degree, write, play chess and do other things that I guess most people would consider to be intelligent. When my baby had colic, and kept me up untill 4:00 in the morning almost everyday of the week, I started watching the reality shows on VH1. Fava Flav (sp?), NewYork and the girls from the "Charm School" show helped me through some rough times. Trash tv does serve a purpose.

Of course it does!!! Tv is an escape it is a change from our reality and it IS entertainment.

 

But to come on here and ask, isn't the show Cheaters a reality check for people? Is like asking isn't the show COPS a reality check for people who plan on stealing or embezzling? And the answer is NO. Because unless you can identify with the people in a particular situation there is nothing to relate to and action is not enough.

 

You think Martha Stewart would have watched COPS and wasn't that a wakeup call for her to not get involved in the stock scandall, afterall she was stealing it's the same thing those degenerates on COPS are doing...:laugh:

 

Or don't pursue a career in showbusiness because look at what happened to Britney Spears, do you want that to happen to you?

PS I like Flava-flave when he was on surreal life, that was the best! Couldn't get into his show after, it was too trashy for me those chicks pulling hair and getting into fist fights was just too much.

Well, some do! I have colleagues whose speciality is TV, though they tend to focus more on news coverage and representations of "the national psyche" in soaps, for example, but some have written on "reality TV".

 

But I guess there's a difference between watching something critically as a social phenomenon, and believing it holds some life lessons... :rolleyes:

I get into reality trash like Laguna Beach or , Real House Wives of Orange County, Scott Baio is 45 and single, or even Celebrity Rehab but to say that any of those shows are used back in reference to my own life is like saying that Wonder Woman had any influence on my life, it's entertainment and curitosity to see how the other world lives, nothing more.

 

Now the BEST show ever to make it to television that DID have an impact on me was Six Feet Under, now there was a fictional show I could relate to. They just don't make shows that visually creative and cerebral every day, very decade even for that matter....

I don't think so. This thread has gotten totally out of hand. Many posters have been very mean spirited and have openly cut down other members. If you have problems with members, report them but have some class and keep petty bickering out of the forums. There is no reason whatsoever to insult others or to be sarcastic. Acting uncivilized in a forum where people come needed advice or constructive comments is simply uncalled for.
