much better to get "natural' happy snap type pics but done professionally

the glamour head shots can come across as phony and staged - maybe just have one like that and the rest 'natural'

cherry's idea is a good one

If you're going out somewhere and you're looking really good, just set the self-timer on your camera and put it on a dresser or something, then take the pic. It will look like someone else took it, and this way you can take as many shots as you want. I do this ALL the time...haha...i mean it looks less vain than if i take the pic with my outstretched arm. Also take the camera with you when you go out, so you have some pics that capture you in your natural 'habitat' and give an idea of your personality.

If you work, ask around at the company. You'll probably find a semi-pro photographer easily enough. Otherwise, go to your local community college and talk to their art department. There's probably a camera club or a photography course. They get a model for an hour, you get more photos than you can count. Granted, they're not on par with pro photographers, but they're 10x better than your regular shutterbug, and for the price, it's hard to say no.

The nice thing is that you won't necessarily look "better" than in real life. I recently had a friend of mine (who is a semi-pro shooter) do some shots of me and a few friends for a biker board I'm on. The bike got a nice wax job, but I sure as hell didn't get dolled up for it. If you talk to your photographer beforehand, the two of you can discuss what kinds of shots you want. You can get ones that look natural, but are still professional. You can do location shoots like a park, a beach, or something else that's fun and casual, but still model-ish.

If the photos are too perfect it leads me to believe that it's fake, that they stole a few pics from a modeling website.

Go out with some friends and take pics of each other, I'm sure you will get some good ones. That's how I got my better ones vs taking them myself.
