blue16 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 As I have mentioned in a couple previous posts, I'm running a men's league basketball team with some buddies of mine. Unfortunately a couple weeks ago I learned of some bad news. One of our best players had an accident and popped his shoulder and there was some nerve damage. His message to all of us was very cryptic, but said that the doctor mentioned he might never regain use of his hand. I was freakin' out and with research I guessed that his entire left arm was paralyzed. Recovery for these injuries can take months to years...and of course it's not 100% guaranteed everything will go smoothly. I tried calling him/contacting him but there was no response as I'm sure he was extremely busy dealing with everything. Also as a preface, this guy isn't my best friend or anything...he is basketball teammate more than anything. After a few weeks to let things cool off...I talked to him today and found out some more details...basically he is paralyzed from his forearm down. Doctor said it might take years. Not the greatest news I know, but at least he has use of his shoulder and his arm is not totally paralyzed. The issue is that he still hasn't paid the $100 season fee yet. He was having some money issues but insisted vehemently that he would pay me by the end of the season. He said if he couldn't muster up the cash then he would get his parents to pay...etc. He sounded very determined. Even today he said that his first paycheck is Thursday and he would pay me then. I'm not sure if I will get the money but at least he sounds sincere. The other thing is that he has a jersey (which he didn't pay for) that I need to get back. Since it will be years (if ever) he regains full functionality of his arm/hand...he definitely won't be back with us next season. But I feel like kind of an ass collecting money and asking for a jersey back when he has had a terrible accident and can't play with us anymore. I'm not quite sure what to do...
