Yeah, I know its another porn thread, but this is serious and I'm not looking for smarta$$ comments on the matter. I don't really have a problem with porn so that is not the issue here. I have been seeing this guy for awhile now. Things seem to be going good. He treats me good etc. I know he views porn sometimes, and thats cool, whatever. BUT, the other evening I was at his home. I was on his computer, he told me I could. I was looking something up I needed to, and I get this pop up signal at the bottom. It was for file sharing to let him know the file he requested from someone was sent. Of course, I didn't realize it was for file sharing until I looked at it. Yeah, go ahead and reem me for looking, I just know someone can't resist. Anyway, I clicked it, and yeah it was for a porn vid he requested. Once again, not a big deal. However, he also had a folder marked, "Porn Vids." Yep, I clicked that too. Why? I thought maybe we could watch some together that evening and I wanted to see what movies he had. Now, here is my concern and question. There was NOT alot, but maybe 3 or 4. They were titled things like 13 year old first time webcam. This was one that really stuck out to me the most. I wasn't sure what to think at first. I know there are times, when just because it might say one thing, doesn't mean that is what it really could be. Yes, I also know there are many women 18 and over, who look really young or make themselves look really young. Howver, this girl looked really her age or at least around it. I clicked it, I wanted to see what in the world this was. I didn't look at the whole thing before I clicked out of it. My question is, how would would know for sure, if that kind of thing was really an underage porn vid? Just because she might have looked that way doesn't mean she really was. Yes, there were a few other vids similar to that, but some of those girls actually did look young but like 18 or 19 and it stated 19 year old porn vids etc. The 13 year old cam one bothered me the most. Did I ask him about it? Nope. I honestly didn't know what to think. I could care less if he knew I looked at his porn folder, it was that vid that bothered me. It does concern me, alot of the porn vids he has are of younger looking girls. Once again, it doesn't mean they are, and I understand that. Also, for file sharing, lets say he requests a file from someone. They send him a file. Is it possible, it was sent by someone who sent him other things and it was maybe, bundled together along with another file? I know nothing about file sharing, that's why I'm asking. It may have not been one he requested, but one that was just sent, by someone? Or, for file sharing do you have to request a file for it to be sent, period?

I'm not sure what I would say to him either. Maybe hold tight until you find out for sure what the deal is with those kinds of video's.

Starla Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 i'd call the police, and let them check it out. even if there is even a small chance of a child being abused and it is more likely to be someone older, i'd still call the police.

Like with Limewire (which I use)...I search certain words or phrases, a bunch pop up and I have to double click to choose to upload it to my computer from someone elses. I have never just been sent something like that to a file sharing program.

I can't remember what the name of this one is. Anyway, so do you feel it would have been something he would have had to ask for or request? Do people send more than one file at a time? Do you think it was bundled together? Or probably not?

If your bf's was titles "13 yo girl etc" then that is what he was trying to download, I dont think it matters if the girl is 13 or 18...his intention (or curiousity) was to see a 13 year old. IMO

IMO Yeah I agree with this. Wheather he was trying to download it or not, its still the fact of what the title says. However, I do think it matters if she was actually 13 or not.

IMO Ok..I think I understand what you're saying. So lets say, he wanted a particular vid, he typed in somethig in the search and whatever comes up if he wants that video he would have had to click that video to begin with for him to even have that in his folder? He keeps some of them in a folder marked "Porn Vids". I don't know what to do. Like I said, there are some others but not like that one. The other ones are of younger looking girls, but like I said, you can tell they are more than likely of age. But this video and title just freaked me out!!

If his computer is set up as a server to serve the files then that allows people to upload to him into a folder without him knowing about it then those same files get served back to others. I would just simply ask him about the files.. There is a high chance that he has no idea that people are upload child porn to his computer and then others are downloading it.. This is one of the biggie issues with peer to peer software today... I you install it then you need to make sure it is set so others cannot upload to you..and you also have to make sure you offload any files downloaded to another directory or those files are immediately served back up to other users. I have seen this particular issue crop up her at work on some computers here..

I am a 25 year old female and I watch it as well. It would be one thing if it were "18 year old girl" but 13 is so young, illegal and gross...Even if she is not actually 13, he still chose it. I think you need to comfront him on this and then judge by how he reacts. No matter what I think he is guilty of sorts...You are certainly in a crappy situation!!!!!!!!!

Bad that people can upload things to anothers computer like that. So if its set up like you say, he can receive files to folders he has that people just upload and he might not be aware of? That sounds dangerous to me. I don't think I woudl leave my computer "open" like that for people to upload whatever, espcially without ones acknowledge. I guess I could ask him. I can ask about some files for movies and ask if he can explain to me how that works. I still wonder how people can tell if one is a real underage video?

Because a porn video has 13 year old in the title it also doesn't mean that the girl isn't 18.. I don't know if he is "downloading" them or not. All I know is, he gets the videos from file sharing and he does have some that he has in folders marked. "Porn Vids." He has some that are not in folders at all...and he has some that are in folders marked, "Videos" that are also porn videos. I'm lost in the sense, how would I know he is downloading them and viewing them as you say?

Normally by default the software is installed as a server and you have to turn that off.. I think you need to ask him.. if he isn't downloading it then he at the very least needs to know that his computer is server them up..

There most likely is a log file detailing uploads/downloads.. Also.. you could run the program and look at the preferences to see where his upload/download directory points to.. if it points to his porn vids directory then you have your answer.. If it doesn't then he is moving those files into the directory and he knows about the age...

I did state that alot of those girls do look young but doesn't mean they are. Alot of women look young but are actually 18 or over. My orginal question too was, how would one know if the girls in the video are actually underage? That was my main concern.

In the US we can only apply laws inside our borders or with countries that work with us.. Most likely those vids are coming from outside of the US borders.. Why would she want to make her BF's life a mess for something he has no control over or he had no idea that he is doing ?? If the vids are really underage girls then just possessing them is illegal and he could go to jail and for the rest of his life be marked a sexual predator. So going to the police is giving the police enough evidence to arrest him for something he might have no idea how he got it...
