Trialbyfire Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Too cute. Spring has sprung. Putting emotions in a box, can be quite helpful, as a coping mechanism, when overwhelmed. As long as you remember to take them out to address them, when you're stronger, each time you do this, more of the pain, sadness and hurt, go away.
Lookingforward Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 What does that mean? I'm trying to be there for a friend while he goes through a divorce. He said he is "putting that $h!t (meaning the pain) in a box and locking it up. I really want him to deal with it so he can be open to love again in the future, but I'm afraid as long as the box is locked, he'll never love again. How long will it take for him to be open again? I saw a video that described how men's brains are like a bunch of little boxes - they compartmentalise everything, each box contains ONE thing and never connects with the other boxes. Sounds like that's what he's doing. Put the pain in a box so he can "ignore" it until he's strong enough to deal with opening it. Hard for women to do that as everything is connected.
Lookingforward Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Oh and Darth ? MY avatar is what I really look like too (cough cough)

Darth Vader Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 (edited) Starla, that furball is an OW, at least I think she is, if memory serves! I see you were an OW once! It's interesting what someone will find out about someone just by backtracking! Lookingforward's pretty much harmless, except for the furballs! Edited March 30, 2008 by Darth Vader

Sounds like that's what he's doing. Put the pain in a box so he can "ignore" it until he's strong enough to deal with opening it. Hard for women to do that as everything is connected. Oh come now. Women can easily compartmentalize. We aren't one big seething mass of emotions. While we're more connected, it doesn't mean we're incapable of separating emotions and issues. Look how we handle familial love v. romantic love v. friendship. If that ain't compartmentalization, I don't know what is. Also, look at the female cheaters who compartmentalize the affair partner and family life. This is no different than the male cheaters, who you would be very familiar with. OW compartmentalize, in that they deny any responsibility in an affair situation.
