calstudent86 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 (I put this in "Dating" because hair style is related to getting a date ) Hey all, I'm 21, and I've had essentially the same haircut for most of my life. I think it's time for a change. My haircut is just a very even cut around my head, brushed back. Some pictures from the past few days: http://photos-e.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v182/100/120/1228459/n1228459_38870916_7009.jpg http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v198/225/18/1065120082/n1065120082_46737_8457.jpg http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v213/187/119/1209830/n1209830_38745049_9069.jpg http://photos-h.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v213/187/119/1209830/n1209830_38745047_7818.jpg A few weeks ago, when it was shorter: http://photos-h.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v181/202/38/1211672/n1211672_38707711_7943.jpg This haircut just feels annoyingly round and poofy. I'd like a sharper (sexier? less childish?) look. I know I don't look 21, but I don't think this haircut is helping: I wonder if there are haircuts that would make me look older? Any opinions would be great! And since every picture that shows my current haircut has me with a really weird expression, here's a picture from last year of my face: http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v197/190/101/1207245/n1207245_38677718_7380.jpg I'm not sure if posting my pictures is allowed on this forum, but I don't see any rules against it. I figure that I won't be able to get advice advice without posting a picture, but if I'm violating any rules, just let me know...
Balthazar Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 some gel may work. comb all hair forward . Possibly brush the front fringe of hair upwards, kept in place with gel. Worth a shot!
AussieJack Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 (I put this in "Dating" because hair style is related to getting a date ) ... Haven't you got an assignment to do . You sound just like a chicka..Quit posting here about your hair and go do your homework or I am sending you to see the Dean (or I will call your father)
Lookingforward Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 This haircut just feels annoyingly round and poofy. I studied your pics, maybe it's not the hair that's round and poofy, maybe it's your head ? Have you considered a hat ?
Star Gazer Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 You're adorable. I think you just need to get to a salon, not a barber shop or SuperCuts, and have a stylist work his/her magic. I also think you need to use some product - either a gel, or a pomade with shine in it.

I also think you need to use some product - either a gel, or a pomade with shine in it. I agree! You've got quite a bit of a natural wave in your hair so some kind of product can hold it, the way you want. Do rely on your stylist's opinion of what he/she recommends.
Ocean-Blue Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I personally like the very short, cropped look. Seems to suit you the most.
Ariadne Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 The way that you'd look the most sexy, would be to grow your hair long. Shoulder lengh or even longer.
Prodigal Princess Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 The way that you'd look the most sexy, would be to grow your hair long. Shoulder lengh or even longer. No, no no! The only men that wear long hair these days are hippies and the homeless. I second Star Gazer's thoughts. Invest in a cut by a stylist at a decent salon, and buy some product while you're there.

Invest in a cut by a stylist at a decent salon, and buy some product while you're there. I've met a few geeky guys (programmers) with long hair. Even at the company I work for. One of the most intelligent men I met in college had long brown silky hair, and he wore it in a pony tail or just loose and combed back. Together with his geeky looks and tiny glasses he looked awesome. Very sexy.

I also think you need to use some product - either a gel, or a pomade with shine in it. I'm with stargazer on all points. I think with a non-supercuts barber and some product you could work with it. I like the gel idea and the messing it up in the front type thing.
Author calstudent86 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Thanks for all the advice so far, everyone. I like the stylist suggestion, but I'm a little worried about having a stylist choose something that is very hard to maintain. Any thoughts on that? As for long hair: look at my face. It just wouldn't match.
Trialbyfire Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Explain to the stylist that the last thing you want is a high-maintenance haircut. Tell him/her, you want no-maintenance!
directx Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I have mine almost like a military cut: clippered level 2 on top, 1 on sides. You have more hair. maybe do a 3 on top, tapered down to a 2 or 1 on sides. Its great! After shower or swimming, there is no hair to dry or maintain. But you may want a hat because damn, your head gets COLD!
Ariadne Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 As for long hair: look at my face. It just wouldn't match. You have a very sexy face. You'd be so hot. Jmo.
Author calstudent86 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 I feel that the really cropped looking makes me look even younger. Maybe I'm wrong, though. What do you all think?
directx Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Just remember: it always grows back. But be careful: I changed my hair style in highschool and got two nicknames for it that never went away.
Author calstudent86 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Ariadne: thanks directx: It's just that I had the really cropped look just one month ago (before a lot of it grew back), and people thought I was a freshman (more than they normally do, it seemed). That's clearly not the goal.
directx Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I would check out the hair styles of 60's rockers or 50's heart throbs and get ideas from that. Google them
Author calstudent86 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Well, I'm not trying to look like a poser...just a little older...
Gold Pile Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Problem is you're a kid. New hair won't cure that. You'll be OK in about 20 years.
benevolent one Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Definitely get a Mohawk. definatly!!!! i miss my mohawk! i got soooooo much poontang cause of my hawk.. or maybe it was cause i was in a band.. i shave it all now with no guard and chicks seem to love that too. maybe its just my super fabulitastic lady killing charm?? i dunno.. prolly still because of the band. try the mohawk mang! if that doesnt work learn how to play the guitar
Author calstudent86 Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 I've been giving this more thought, and I think that what I'm looking for is a hairstyle that will most flatter my head and features. My features are clearly very round and large, so I'm wondering what type of hairstyle would best complement that. I'm afraid to rely on the opinion of one random hair stylist...so how would I figure this out?
