There are some glaring inconsistencies in what you've said Gwyneth.

You claim on this thread that you are 8 weeks now. On February 29 you posted the following:

I'm six weeks now.

Shouldn't you be at the 9 week mark? I know the pregnant women in my life are very aware of where exactly they are in their pregnancy (especially at the beginning, when they need to take care).

On Feb 7th you posted that you have been pregnant "for some time now". So you knew you were pregnant less than 3 weeks into the pregnancy? You stated that "t was only confirmed earlier this week" - so really, you knew you were pregnant about 2 weeks into your pregnancy. Wow. You also said you thought you might be pregnant and thought about telling your MM the Saturday before (Feb 2)... Umm...so you suspected you might be pregnant 1 week and a day into it? Really?

The more I read your posts, the more obvious your idenity becomes.

3 years ago I was pregnant with twins and my gynecologist knew just as soon as I asked for my FIRST blood test because at around 4 weeks (6 weeks calendar), my levels should be at about 5,000-6,000 hcg but I was already doing 13,000 or so. He knew that the pregnancy wasn't a single baby pregnancy. I was taking Clomid to get pregnant so we just knew something wasn't right.

Unfortunately, we couldn't really see anything until I was about 4 months into the pregnancy. We saw the two cute little sacs justs floating around, looking all full and pulsating. We did find out the sex of the babies at about 5 months because my doctor was still using the US wand since I was a high risk pregnancy, he didn't want to miss anything with a regular US.

With all that HCG level inside me, boy oh boy I was emotional!!!!! I cry at the drop of a hat as it is but during my pregnancy, I was criying "just because it's Tuesday".... yup, I did that. I was driving my hubby absolutely crazy.

I did, however ended up losing my babies at exactly 22 weeks and 24 weeks. Lost the boy at 22 weeks and at 24 weeks, lost the girl. It was a very traumatic thing for us and I still haven't gotten over it yet. I don't think I will ever will. Losing a baby and having an abortion has been the worse thing I've ever been through.:o

Gwyneth, Good luck on your pregnancy. I hope everything turns out well for you. I do have to say, if I had to do it all over again I would. I loved being pregnant. That was about the best feeling I had... growing a tiny little penis and a tiny little vajay-jay inside of me gave me strength to endure some other troubles I was going through in my life. Yeah, I lost them both but they are in heaven now. I do still count my babies when people asks:"how many kids do you have?" They are in heaven, taking care of my Mom, who passed away 1 year before my babies did.

Anyway, congratulations!

WTF do people around here have to analyze everything people say? Shoot man. Yes, I knew for several reasons...one, we had unprotected sex, and 2, I missed my period. 3. I have previously been pregnant and felt the same.

Would you also like to know the positions we did during sexual intercourse? Or perhaps the video? Photos, and maybe you even wnated to be there to witness the conception?

I just enterend into my 8th week FYI. Plus why does it even matter how far along I am? DO I need to reveal EVERYTHING about my pregnancy? I'm pregnant--deal with it.

EVER hear of concealing your true identit--especially when you are pregnant?

Wow, I am so sorry to hear about this. Very sad. I too had an abortion but for me, it was the right choice, even though I had regrets. I wasn't as far along as you so I can't even imagine the pain you have endured--and still are. I don't even know the sex of that baby, and I believe it was even too soon to determine. But it is in a better place now. I am very overjoyed this time around because I feel that it is giving me the one thing I have desired for the longest time now.

I'm emotional to begin with. I cried when Heath Ledger died and I didn't even really know much about him :o. I guess our emotions are all very different.

One more thing--what does this mean? 4 weeks but 6 week calendar?

This is interesting because depending which site I look to see how far along I am and what to expect, some say I'm two weeks further along than I am  Apparently the first two weeks begin before conception? I don't understand that at all.

To clear it all up, I became pregnant the week of January 27th, or somewhere around there, but I am sure that was the week since that was the one week of unprotected sex. On Feb 29th, I was only around 4 weeks, so I don't know where 6 weeks comes from--but then again, some calendars say you're two weeks ahead... Based on my size, I am due in late October. How does the OB determine how far along I am if I don't know exactly when I became pregnant? The week of JAn 27th I believe I was ovulating, and my next period was late, which indicated to me I was pregnant because I'm right on the clock and sometimes even get my period at the same time of the day every other month (freaky if you ask me).

The two week difference is the (assumed) time between the beginning of one's last menstrual period (LMP) and fertilization. Since most often, a new mother is quite certain of the start date of her last menstrual period, and may be less certain of the date of fertilization, most fetal development calendars and references are made relative to LMP gestational age. It doesn't mean the the fetus really started developing that early, it's just a counting convention so that everyone is using the same developmental calendar. Look at wikipedia for the topic "gestational age."

From 7 to about 12 weeks, they take a measurement during the ultrasound of the cell mass called, at that time, the "fetal pole." The measurement is called the "crown-rump length", or CRL, which is a bit misleading, since the fetus, for most of the first trimester, doesn't yet have a developed crown or rump. Nonetheless, this measurement is highly repeatable and reliable, and is an accurate predictor of gestational age during this part of the pregnancy.

Determinng sex typically can't happen until 16 weeks or so.

We knew at 10 weeks that it was a boy.. and there was a heartbeat..

They said that only if it is a boy and he presents himself properly thruout the US can they tell as early as 10 weeks..

My boy showed himself about 6 times during the 10 week US..

He is hung

Today the US at 10 weeks is high rez and amazing.. they even blow up his spine and measure the water at the base of the brain and you can count a good bit of the vertebrae

Dude, that was the umbilical cord... (j/k) ;)

HIgh HCG levels can usually mean twins or that you're further along, I'm sure it can mean other things as well, but I know it can mean those two things. So since you now know its not twins, has your doctor said if you are further along?

That is weird, I thought the sex organs were not fully developed until 18 weeks or so. I do know that at 9 weeks there is no way to determine whether it is a boy or a girl because their genitals look exactly the same. Also, prior to 12 weeks the boy does not officially have a "penis". He has what is called a "genital tuber" (in fact, so do female fetuses). By 11 weeks the body of the penis is formed by the fusion of what are called urogenital folds but this fusion is not finished yet. If you're interested I can send you a link, so PM me if you wanna. The link I have has excellent photos that compare male and female genital development in utero.

So what the U/S techinician/OB saw (and I think it's pretty crazy that they didn't mention this to you) was the genital tubercle.

It's more of an "organ is not formed yet" issue than a "we can't really see that well on the U/S" issue.

Prior to 18 weeks there is a 50/50 chance they can determine the correct gender. But when you hit 18 weeks there is an 80/20 chance they can correctly determine the gender. I assume most OB's wait until the latter stages of development because they don't want to have a lot of patients who have the wrong impression.

She did say that there was a chance she was wrong but she gave us a 90% chance it was a boy at 10 weeks..

I did just goggle this :

Until the ninth week of embryo development, the embryonic reproductive apparatus is the same one for the two sexes.

So after 9 weeks the two start to look different..

I would guess with the high rez imaging that they have today and the fact that she has seen it many times before that she guessed boy..

She was right by the way... but we didn't start buying boy stuff until the next US at 16-18 weeks because she did say that she could've been wrong..

I could have sworn my coworker said she found out her baby was a boy during her second month--at the most she was 8 weeks? She could have been into her third month when she found out--I don't know how she determines two months. Maybe I misunderstood her. I'm not sure if I want to find out the sex. I like some surprises :)

I think OBGYNs make a lot of assumptions. Mine thought she saw two babies, now it's one. WHICH IS IT??? She said sometimes the twins will hide one behind the other, or in my case it could have been a shaddow. Whatever--now my hCG levels are normal (thank the lord).

We discussed my hCG levels but I am not comfortable sharing why they were high with anyone. Some things should be kept confidential ;)

According to me, since I know i conceived on Jan 27th, I am now around 8 weeks (will be on Sunday to be exact), but according to my doctor, she estimated 9 going by the date of my last period. So she's two weeks ahead of me in some respects. But she agreed I most likely did conceive on that one day because of the condom issue, I know myself better than her, and the size of the fetus. She said too all fetus' grow at different speeds.

Today was one of those days I felt humungous :o. I'm very bloated and had some indigestion after lunch. The stomach is settled now, thank god. I have always had a problem with bloating.

You really know a lot about all of this. Thanks :) Very helpful. My OB gave me a CDRom and a pamphlet one what to expect when expecting (one of those) and from that CDRom, it only allowed me to enter the first day of the last period. From that, it said I am two weeks further along than I estimated myself. That was why I was . Thank you for clearing that up :)

Lovely.

That's good they are now "normal." Because no matter how normal they start out, high or whatever, as the pregnancy progresses the HCG levels should continue to go higher. Not go back to "normal". But then normal is different for different people maybe.
